I am very curious to get this mod in my old Bassman. It looks very cool. I believe this is what Suhr is using in his new Badger amp.

Has anyone here done this mod yet?
Thx

John Suhr builds his own. The technology is licensed by London Power.
There's lots of options when installing Power Scaling in an existing amp. I had the PSK-2 installed in my Univalve by Val King of King Amplification val@kingamplification.com. You can read all about it here http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=217667
Val did a wonderful job and was an absolute pleasure to deal with, highly recommended.

I'm very interested in doing this on my Ampeg VT40 which is crazy loud but with great tone.I'd love to capture it's overdrive for recording.
Are there any techs in SoCal that do this mod on older amps?

Thx for the replies
I'm not really looking for someone to do it, My bud, Bruce Marcolina (from this board) has modded most of my amps.
I'm interested in folks that have had it done and how it works for them
thx

Harry;
We have done several Power Scaling installs and are also building a new 80W head with PS. In terms of tone and functionality PS delivers!
The install is complex and particular attention needs to be paid to the reliability nuances... as with any modification. Let me know if you have any questions regarding the technical aspects of the install.

Val did a great job on a PS install for a Plexi amp I sent him. Great work and awesome documentation! Very reasonably priced also. The PS made the amp useable becasue it was way too loud without it and the tone wasn't great with a Hot Plate. It was a much better alternative (tone-wise) to the Hot Plate I was using. Thanks again Val and welcome to the forum!

I believe the original question related to the modules London Power sells not power scaling in general. I'll bump this , as I too would like to hear experiences using the module.

Hi Guys!
There is no electrical difference between using the PS-Box and an installed kit. Wherever possible, the kit is a better choice for safety and noise control.
Otherwise, the only difference is ergonomics. The Power Scale control mounted on the PS-Box may be hard to reach being in behind the amp. In a combo, it might be mounted down one of the side walls demanding an even longer reach.
With either the box or kit, the Drive Compensation is ideally mounted on the chassis if it is required.
Back before we had the PCB for the PSK-1 (PS kit for fixed-bias amps), the tech had to make his own cards to do the installation. This could be time consuming, so when the box came out it potentially saved the tech a lot of time. However, now that the PCB version of the PSK-1 is available, the time difference for a PSKPC install or a PS-Box install is minimal. The over-all complexity of the job is about the same, too. It is a mistaken belief that the box will allow total newbies to do such a mod: it won't.
With respect to mods in general, a creative tech can do a mod with minimal impact to the outward appearance of the amp. Specifically, few if any holes ever need to be drilled even for a PSK install.
