Hi Guys,

I tried out the few lefties they had at one of the local stores here.

They were (prices in Canadian dollars, so add 15% tax too!):

BeaverCreek - laminate - 170 new
Simon & Patrick - Cedar top - 460 new
Seagull - Cedar top - 260 used
Songbird - Sparkly Purple w/ onboard tuner and eq - 470 new

The worthy ones were the S&P and Seagull.

The Seagull was louder, in good shape, and had beautiful highs and sustain. The S&P was mellower, with good lows, low mids - pretty quiet though.

I've been playing for 7 years, of which the last 6 were on various electrics so I'm sort of a newbie again. Are S6 models considered good guitars?

I tried to haggle and get them to either throw in a hard case, or drop the price to 240 incl. taxes, but they wouldn't budge.

Lefties move VERY slowly, so I think I can go back in 2 weeks and still find it there, and ask for a discount again, but does 260 seem high for a used S6 in okay shape?

Thanks in advance!

I've got a Seagull S6+CW burst cutaway, cedar top.
Great guitar! I don't think you can beat the Seagull's in thier price range.

I played 30-40 different guitars when I was hunting for a new acoustic. From $300 to $2000 was my price range and I ended up with a used $350 Seagull. Go firgure.

i think seagulls are great guitars for the money. one thing to be aware of though is many don't have a gloss tops... if you tend to strum heavily, you will wear down the top (esp if it is cedar). kind of like willie nelson's guitar :P

on another note, Simon&Patrick is made by the same company that makes Seagulls. i believe its a bit more "higher end" and i think they do sound a little different as well. but they are nice guitars too.

My number one go-to acoustic is a Seagull S6+ spruce top. It's a little brighter than the cedar tops I tried. Since I don't use a pick, the spruce top seemed just right.

I paid $375 US new. Since then i've seen them cheaper, but I love my baby, so I'm happy.

You won't wear down the top ala Willie as Dahn8 says just because the lacquer's not buffed.

I've had a couple of Seagulls (and a Taylor 9 series) and I LOVE them! You can't go wrong, esp since they cost as much as a hotel room!

I got a Seagull back in about '89 and it's still going strong! I've wanted a new acoustic for a while but everytime I try some out I realize I'd probably have to spend close to $1000 to get a significant improvement.
