Hello..Im sure different threads have addressed this but rather hunt and peck I need one answer.Im looking for a Leslie sound and was wondering if there are any Chorus pedals out there that can do it without excess noise.Id rather go the chorus route and then have the extra chorus sound rather than a one trick pony.Have used an Analogman chorus which was great but added some noise to my rig.Need a transparent sound!Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If the Analogman was adding noise, I'd say your s.o.l.:o ! That is one of the less noisey choruses I've had (out of about 30 or 40 different ones). I'd also say that does a better Vibratone/Leslie sound than most--far better than the Arion which everyone else will suggest. If you need authenticty of a Leslie sound a Flanger can get you closer than chorus, and a dedicated simulator will be leaps and bounds over a chorus or flanger. I enjoy a Retro-Sonic Chorus Ensemble for chorus, but the AM Clone Chorus gets a better psuedo-vibratone sound.

My picks specifically for getting a psuedo Leslie sound only:

Chorus: Analogman Clone Chorus
Flanger: Ibanez AD-99
Rotary: Boss RT-20 Rotary Ensemble (beats the Korg G4, Rotosphere, etc...)

My favorite for leslie is the Arion SCH-1.

I find the Arion SCH-Z does the job very well.

Man, I just got a Line 6 Roto Machine and I think it's just AWESOME. Cheap and really good sounding to me. I like it more than the Destination Rotation and that thing is like, more than double the price I think...

id say for chorus/leslie go for the analog man bi chorus... then you could have one setting for slow and one for fast.. just an idea..

HI
I'm new here
I've just had the new destination rotation single, absolutely superb.

It's only fault is that it seems to boost the signal slightly and I'm waiting for an e mail from the maker about this, but, it's much much better than the previous model.

They all add some level of noise when run before drive (but to me, that's where they sound best). I had a Rotosphere that I thought was great sounding for live use; I currently have a Calypso Whirligig that I received just a few weeks ago. It sounds very good and has great features, but I've only used it at one rehearsal so far, so I don't want to give it a recommendation yet.

The best leslie sim I heard was the vibrato part of the Roland CE-1, but it kills tone, got myself a Retro-sonic Chorus Ensemble to replace it (it's a clone of it), pretty close, not as chewy, but hard to tell in a band or even recording context. Haven't tried the Analogman Bi-Chorus though.

The Retro-sonic tames the high end a little, and has a gain knob, so you can compensate with volume in a band situation, works pretty well for that, and the eq-ing gives it a warm feel.

I've had a lot of chorus/leslie pedals. I like that David Holt,Bonamassa leslie sound.

I'm back to using my TC Chorus set to a fast leslie type sound. It really sounds good with the band. I guess David Holt uses one too, modded, but mine sounds just like his on the new Storyville CD.

It is very quiet too.

+1 on the TC Electronic Chorus/Flanger.

Joe Bonamassa uses one, but not for leslie sounds -- he uses a Korg Leslie simulator for that.

Thanks for all the info.I think the Analogman mono chorus I had may have had a problem as it added too much hiss.I did love the leslie sound it gave though.Does the TC do it realistically??I heard one years ago and remember they were dead silent. Thanks again

I had a Korg leslie simulator, it sounded really great, but it was huge. The TC Chorus sounds like I like a "guitar leslie" tone to sound like. I have a real Leslie in my studio and a Trek pedal interface to put my guitar through it, and that of course is the real deal, but I like a certain sound for guitar and the TC nails it.

FWIW, I've had the Retro Sonic, the Arion, Fulltone chorus and vibe, Maxon, Ibanez, the Korg G4, and several others. Also, I only use that sound about 5 times a night, so the TC is perfect, plus it will do normal chorus sounds and flange. I don't use those sounds, but at least it has it.

#1 - AnalogMan BiChorus with deep switch. You get two leslie speeds with this setup. No rampup/down, but it's very rich and convincing. I do not find it noisey at all, especially with respect to other choruses.
#1.01 - Arion SCH-Z (honest, noisey and distorted, but sooooooo juicy sounding, and the tone knob does it for me. I am getting a TBP looper from Keeley just so I can use it on my board as well.

I asked the same question a few months ago and got MANY differing opinions and NO concensus. So, I ended up with a Boss RT-20 and a Whirligig. The Boss is cool, but the Whirligig sees all the gig duty. If you use a two amp set up the Boss might be the better choice, but 97% of the time I'm one amp only and the Whirligig sounds great. YMMV and all that.

The SCH-Z is just STOOPID for nice swirly tones.

Boss CE-2.You can have that boutique stuff,I think this is the one,but it has to be the older model(black label MIJ).
