View Full Version : Related to my thread before, are 240V to 220V step down transformers available?

To run an EU spec amp in the UK?

I can't seem to locate them anywhere. US --> UK, fine, but nothing to just step down 20V.

Hmm?

Most people consider the difference between 220 and 240 isn't worth worrying about. (Having said that, the mains voltage in my workshop is a hefty 248V right now, and I doubt a 220V tube amp would like that too much.) If you are worried, get yourself a 240V to 24V transformer, and make a version of R.G. Keen's Vintage Voltage adapter that knocks 240V down to 216.

Having said that, if the amp warranty period is over, it's probably no harder to just bust it open and change the transformer taps yourself. You may find it is set for a compromise value like 230V.

Interesting. It's a Mesa Mark IV, I have another thread going about it actually.
