View Full Version : Can you guys ID a "Tungsram" 12AX7 ?

Got an amp that came with some "Tungsram" branded 12AX7 tubes, with "Made in Hungary" printed on the tubes as well. They sound fine.

Are these new/modern? Older/vintage? Rebrands? Just curious - haven't seen Tungsram discussed here.

They're NOS tubes and generally considered to be very good. They don't have the name recognition of some other brands but they're a very high quality and toneful item.

I have some that are re-labeled at "Pro/Comm" and they are verrrry high quality. I don't mean to up the market value (cuz I want more backstock) but yeah, they're similar to the RCA's I have, i.e. a little brighter and high gain.

I prefer them to anything... including the cork sniffer western European varieties. FWIW, they were the Groove Tube 7025 for many years.
