Chuck, you're a beast! Loved it bro! Now I need to listen to the rest of the clips. You burn.....

Btw, loved what you did with the Beckish backing. I am probably the culprit for spreading that on the net. My version is called Bluetude on my site. Your version is so smooth and soulful! Nice laid back feel.

Thanks guys! I want to put some new stuff up when time allows. This is all from the archives except the Beckish BT.

I did a better mix of Beckish but ran out of CD's for my little Fostex box to burn it. I'll repost and look forward to checking yours Scott. How can a guitar player with any blues resist playing over that track!

Again, I appreciate you guys listening and being a part of this community. Bunch of crazy guitar players........feels like home.

That is cool! Sounds a bit like Robben Ford to me. I hate you guys-I swear I don't have those notes on my guitar. I don't even hear those notes, know what I mean? Lee

Woof... 'das what I'm talkin' 'bout dude!
I listened to a bunch of the clips
Silky, way cool, sensitive, well phrased, inflected lines with motif after motif.

Being that this is the gear page... I have to digress away from the sheer musicality on display here and ask how do you get such a great recorded tone with the POD? I have tried so many times and can't seem to loose the thin hollow vibe. I have edited and experimented.

Thanks much for your feedback guys. I'm thrilled that you like my low budget tone!

Harry, thanks for the kind words. The POD thing for me is the Marshall plexi or the 59 bassman. (2 amps I wouldn't mind owning!) For the California custom OD stuff I use a duncan JB into the marshall. Gain all the way up. EQ to taste. Nothing too drastic.... this combo works. Sometimes a dynacomp in front. The room sound and delay from the POD. The clean cc stuff (JB in the neck) is the bassman. Same deal, dynacomp, room sound and delay.

The Hofner stuff is all bassman. Just turning up the gain for OD. The tele stuff was the champ (7a) preset. (duncan antiquity's) Just gain to taste, room sound and delay. (except for the live track) Don't use this much anymore.

On mixdown I have this preset in my little Fostex box (VF80) called doubling which is 2 delays. 10ms and 20ms. I add that and it really thickens up and spreads out.

It took me a while to realize that it's all in those 2 amps. (for me) Just like the old days. A fender and a Marshall. Imagine that! Old dog, no new tricks ; ) The hofner and tele stuff was from 4 years ago????? The cc stuff is pretty current.

I think that's it. I really get inspired from this place since I live so far away from any scene. Love it. Have heard some badass playing here.

Thanks again!

Stereo delay settings in mixdown are 20ms and 40ms NOT 10 and 20.

And that's it! Chuck's cheap tone ; )

Got to try some of these fancy amps someday. I have and epi valve jr head that I'm messing with. Pretty cool. As the guy in the Kinks said "I'm on a lowwwwwww budget"

Hi Chuck,

Great stuff. Scottl just turned me on to your clips, I was surprised to see its you. I've seen you play with Nick Brignola, and you probably know some musician friends of mine- Ken Parmele, Mike Holober, and of course John Davey. Great to have you here.

Talk about far from the scene-Albany is NYC compared to Cooperstown/Otsego County.

Thanks Gary,

Yea this stuff is a bit of a departure from the Nick Brignola days.

Say hi to Mike and John for me. The GP is cool. Having a great time here listening to some great players and meeting new friends.

That is a POD 2.0 Marshall plexi or Bassman into a fostex workstation.

I get into it a little more in depth earlier in the thread.

Hey Chuck,

This is just so killer Chuck...and the fact that it is a POD is just ridiculous! When I compare it to your clips with amps on your myspace, there is obviously a huge difference, but it really goes to show you that if a very talented player has a tone in his head, it can be coaxed out of difficult gear.

Very impressive all around in my book.

cdaloia

Thanks John!

The clips on myspace are the POD also. The only amps I own are an Epiphone Valve Jr head and an old Ampeg Gemini II.

Thanks so much!

Chuck

Now YOU have tone, chops, ideas, phrasing and composition. The whole she-bang!

Ah Jeez Chuck,

Don't I feel like the dorky tin-ear now...errrr. I didn't mean that (now incorrect) observation as a left-handed compliment; they just sounded a bit different and even less "modeled" on the other clips. Like everybody else, I am FLOORED that you can get that tone out of a POD. Lesson in gear hubris No. 1.

Thanks for your compliments on my tunage.

I think you should now change your TGP moniker to TONE GOD HEAD.

Hey John,

It took me a looong time to figure it out. I used to want to throw the POD out the window every other day until I had to sell my 66 vibrolux. Then I was stuck with it.

If I can fool you I must be doing something right...... But I want a fancy amp like everyone else!

Congrats on the props you are getting for your recording. Well deserved!

Scottl~P.M.'d me that I just had to check you out...!!

Whoa... very enjoyable!!
You are the consummate guitarist indeed ...
So I googled you & find a visual & a Bio ... Check this out guys :AOK

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l12/lucidology/ChuckD.jpg

Bio: Chuck D'Aloia is a versatile and active guitarist based in upstate NY. He started playing guitar at the age of six and was playing live gigs by the time he was just ten. Chuck studied at Berklee School of Music in 1974-1975, and has made his living in music ever since.

Chuck's long-standing musical relationship with legendary saxophonist Nick Brignola gave him national and international exposure. Chuck was Brignola's touring/recording guitarist from 1978 until his unfortunate and quick passing in 2002. Other musicians that recorded with Chuck on Brignola's solo recordings include: John Pattitucci, Billy Hart, Eddie Gomez and Bill Stewart. On Brignola's last release, “Tour De Force” (Reservoir 2001), Nick quoted “Chuck is not only one of the most underrated guitarists- he's also one of the most versatile. His harmonic knowledge always surprises me. Playing with him is an adventure each time.”
Chuck's well-rounded playing makes him an in-demand guitarist for live gigs and sessions of all musical settings. Besides his long musical association with Brignola, D'Aloia has also performed with Rosemary Clooney, Eubie Blake, The Shirelles, The Drifters, various Broadway Shows in NY City and countless other jazz artists. Chuck is also a composer who was written the scores for numerous commercials, documentaries, cartoons and television including spots for General Electric, Fox News and Kodak.

Chuck D'Aloia is currently Professor of Jazz Guitar at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.
