Anyone tried it?
Could it be one of those things that will be comparable to the RME Fireface sound quality wise be without paying extra lot's of stuff many folks will never need?

I have the Saffire LE and the quality of the pre's seem to be very good. Engineers with much more experiencing than me have listened to the results and have commented positively.
In my case, I am using a Neumann 105 which requires 48v. And integration wiht a Mac is seemless!

I went and picked one up today. I'll let you all know how it works. Tooo many lost opportunities !
For starters though, I plugged it in. The system recognized it. Samplitude started and recognized it. I recorded a short voice test. It worked and played back.
The control software is easy on the eyes and works.
So far, in 5 minutes I've gotten further with this Saffire than I did with two weeks on the Fireface.
I guess that's just the luck of my configuration.

Have you tried recording via ADAT in? That's where I'm held up, tracking ADAT from the 01V to the Saffire/Samp.

No, but I regularly do via S/PDIF with no problems. ADAT only works at 96KHz or below - if you're trying to record at 196KHz, ADAT will be disabled. Also ADAT can be disabled to improve CPU usage - maybe check to see if this option is on (click on the Saffire PRO logo on the top right, see 'Disable ADATs for better CPU usage' check box).
What exactly is happening (or not)? Can you see the ADAT channels (11 thru 26) in your host?

My buddy, Deaj, picked one up, and in comparison to the Lexicon Omega (with dbx Silver Series pres) he has, it paled in quality of mic pres. He turned around and sold it lickety split. He may chime in here too . . .
