I am torn between these two. Wanting a P-90 guitar for long....which one amongst these two different models would you recommend for a classy P90 vibe. I dont own a hollowbody guitar and am a BIG fan of vintage tone so leaning a bit towards the Epi Casino. Any recommendations otherwise?
Thanks a lot

I played an epi the other day that was actually much better than the gibson 335 I picked up to play later. I think they do a good job with those guitars, though you may want to change the pickups and such.

I prefer the Casino, but the pots and wiring can stand to be upgraded big time. The pickups could be better as well, but overall for the money, I think they sound great if you can find a good one.

PRS generally builds a great guitar, I simply prefer the tone of the hollow Casino.

The PRS SE soapbar is an awesome guitar. Well worth the money IMO. I had one and sold it and regret it big time.

I have the PRS SE Soapbar and finds it more than stands on it's own compared to my more expensive, US-made instruments. I like the sound of it's P90-type pickups too, although I've heard some that would want to upgrade. But they're fine to me. Great neck on the guitar for me, excellent playability and quality for that price range.

you don't like the tone of the semi-hollow Casino... you LOVE the tone of the FULLY hollow Casino! I got one, was on the verge of re-selling it because I was having trouble finding the tone I wanted... more time spent with it, and I am in heaven! as soon as you take that pickguard off, you're good to go!http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c146/Tennis_Nick/Guitars/My%20Guitars/100_0837.jpg

I have a soft spot for the Casino. The PRS soapbar is also nice. I have not played either plugged in, but the Epi I picked up to play in a GC awhile back, was so light and comfortable. I didn't look it over carefully since I wasn't going to buy it, but for the few minutes I messed with it, it was a real bargain at just over $500! AND, I was surprised to see it did NOT have the spliced neck so many Epi Gibson model have. I know that splice is supposed to be stronger than the wood, but seeing it really bugs me. I sold a perfectly nice Emperor Regent because I hated seeing that splice in the neck. I wouldn't mind having a sunburst Casino with a Bigsby like George Harrison used to play in the mid 60s. Too many other guitars in line before that, but I suspect one day I'll have one.

I own both - Casino and PRS Soapbar SE.
I've had the Casino for six years and it has lots of parts changed. A prior owner installed Grover tuners. I installed Gibson pickups, much better than the stock PUs. All the electronics (pots, input jack, switch) were replaced over the years with Gibson parts. The stock parts are not very good. Now I love the guitar. It sounds particularly good with both PUs.
The Soapbar SE is a recent purchase. The previous owner added Lollar pickups, CTS pots, Swithcraft input jack and Electrosocket. Wow! What an amazing guitar. I am astonished at how good it sounds. Of course it is new (to me anyway) and I've had the Casino for years so, well you know how it goes... I don't think you will go wrong with either, especially with some mods.

Pretty different gtrs! Some of the Epi's are pretty nice as are the PRS's. At stage volume my experience this 330's is they can get pretty squeely really quickly. "Stuffing" helps but can be hard to tame at decent volume esp. with any kind of high gain amp.
PRS soapbar is a very nice gtr for the $$$. Needs a little set up help (nuts always seem a little too tall) but I think the PU's are good. Either way you can't really go wrong.

"Honey, does this PRS make me look gay?"-CP
Gawd, I will never stop laughing my ass off at that quote!
I hadda Epi Casino Elite (Elitist?), with Fralin p.u.s, and all the pots, switch, etc. changed to real stuff, and a Bigsby. What a fabulous sounding gtr, through any amp, great looking (blonde!), and for a long time I had myself convinced that I didn't mind it's skinny-ass neck. Well, eventually the drugs wore off, and I came around to the fact that the neck was not for me, and sold it. I'd still be playing it and loving it if it was a chunky neck.
