View Full Version : Anyone use a delay with their Komet...if so, which one?

I love the Komet sound on it's own, but sometimes I wouldn't mind a bit of delay...was just wondering if anyone had had any success with delay units and Komets. I've tried my Line 6 DL4 with my Komet a number of times and it sucked, but I probably just haven't set it up properly.
I used to use it with my old ENGLs effects loop and it worked really well in that but it seems harder to get a good delay sound happening through the front end of the amp.
Any help would be great.
Cheers,
Ben.

When i first got my Komet, about 2 years ago,i tried all kinds of pedals with it,drives,fuzzes,delays....Nothing sounded as good as the amp on its own.As time went by and i got more comfortable with the amp and the fact that i had no protection from delays and the like i became a much better player. So far i've been using a multiple amp setup but for my new record and all the live performances i will use the Komet alone.I know hogy mention something about having all effects go thru another amp,so the feel of the Komet[those of us lucky enough to have one, know what i mean]isn't compromised.Hey look at it this way...you don't need a delay when you speak,so why need one when you play?:jo

Haha good point...the Komet actually sounds brilliant without a delay and my playing has improved heaps just by making myself play acoustic lots as well as without delay, that I have no problem with.
Just for the odd ocassion when I would want to use a delay that's all.

Pretty sure my answer won't be much help but since you asked: I use an EchoCzar into the front end and it hangs together just fine, even if the Komet is vol 12:00-02:00 (where I hang most).

PS Ditto the idea of an extra amp for your effects - I've done that in the past and it can be a whole new world :)
For time based effects, a wet-dry rig sounds great with the Komet (the Komet being the dry part, of course).

The Komet I played was a very transparent amp. That's why it's good.
It would have revealed the shortcomings of a Line 6 delay no doubt. The L6 doesn't sound very good with my TR either, even though I use it when I want a delay sound.
The problem is, the L6 pedals convert the signal to digital, as opposed to just adding the effect, and I think the conversion screws with your sound anyway, making things worse when you put the effect in front of a good amp.
At some point I'm just going to get a better sounding delay to use with my TR, and if you want delay with the Komet, I'd lose the L6. It's never gonna sound right with that amp's revealing nature.

Would something like a T-rex Replica be better...or is that the same deal?

Ben, where'd you pick that beauty up mate? :)
Where abouts are you located? I'd love to hear that amp in the flesh one day!

Which Komets are you guys using?
I haven't tried a Komet but I would definitely recommend the Echoczar or MP Deep Blue Delay (that will be released soon!).
Try the Ibanez soundtank EM5
It was highly recommended to me for the amp.

Echoczar sounds great with a Komet 60.

Hi Tim,
I'm actually down in Melbourne myself but the band I'm in is about to start gigging and there is a pretty good possibility we'll trek up to Sydney. The band is Mojorising (shameless plug coming up) and our myspace is www.myspace.com/mojorisingband (http://www.myspace.com/mojorisingband) (just so you know when we're gigging so you can come see the amp of course ;) )
...and in case you didn't get my hint, I'll probably be using the Komet (60) in this band and am going to ROCK OUT!!!
