Can the Fuzz Head do that violin-like sustain....like a Big Muff?

I own two Fuzz Heads...they can do sustain more like the Fuzz Face units can but not the Big Muff sound. They are voiced more like a Fuzz/OD combo than a pure fuzz unit. I run a Fuzz Head into my NPN Silicon Fuzz and get very good results. I run my Muff buy itself with maybe my TMB after on the clean side but not with the FH.

The fuzzhead is like a touch of Fuzzface mixed with a Blues Driver. The BD covers for holes in the fuzz, and the fuzz fills in the middle of the BD. It is a cool sounding pedal. It's got a little hiss, but it's worth it for the fun..

One Fuzz Head doesn't have that much fuzz at all really. It's more of a tonal character kind of pedal with a LOT of volume. The darned thing is unity at about 9:00 on the Head knob...
It has about half as much fuzz as a fuzz face or london fuzz.

Try a booster before the Fuzz Head, maybe a compressor, Katana/clean boost, BD-2 or a Rangemaster. Java Boost into Fuzz Head works very nicely and gets saturated much easier.

ok I'll look for this... I'm searching a VERY tight silicon sound not very fuzzy or dist but the FH is a bit weak even with my LP...

The tightest Silicon fuzz I've had the pleasure to play was the Foxrox Hot Silicon. Although it has loads of gain, it sounds great even with the fuzz knob around 50-60% and the grit control really helps to shape the character of the fuzz.

Take a listen to my vids. The latest ones feature a Javaboost slamming a fuzzhead. I get thick sustainy lead tones that clean up beautifully with the guitar volume.

This one has the volume backed off just a bit

I think the idea of the FH is to use the FH to either drive an od -- as a lead boost, or use to send an amp that is almost clipping, or already clipping, into further saturation. I use mine the 2nd way.

I get endless violin-like sustain with a Keeley Compressor before it... with the sustain knob nearly maxed.
I hit it with other drives, or a compressor and it does this pretty well. I also find that using the FH to hit an SFX03 will more than do it.
The FH has a fuzz tone to me and works great in the blues and gritty country to ZZ top range (I use buckers). It has a tone and responsiveness I have found in no other pedal (in a great way). I really like that pedal.
