Eventide H3000 Explain it to me

Since the late 80s arists from Vai to Mick Mars to Andy Summers RAVE that the H3000's are a secret to their sound...

Why is that? What is so special here? Tell me.

It's basically a studio quality effects processor that specialises in pitch based effects. It was huge in the 80's and is still found in a lot of touring racks still. The big three...Eventide for Pitch, TC Electronics for Delay and Lexicon for Reverb. :AOK

"Micropitchshift".......detune one side a few cents & raise the other side a few cents. It sounds way wide , if you're into that.

The reverse delays+pitch shift are also fun. Algorithms can be tweaked, but it's an 80 's UI--think command line DOS,almost.

I liked the stock delay too...actually preferred it over my 2290 & PMC80.

I had an H3000 D/SE in my studio for many years, until recently switching to software stuff (I know, I shoulda kept it, but oh well).

Eventide's algorithms are wonderful sounding; not only their pitch shifting, which was for a long time the best available, but their reverbs and delays are dense and very noise-free.

The Eventide software was also extremely easy to use to create great new sounds. The box was very well designed, the menus intelligently laid out, and even we guitar players found them easy to dial up a great sound on.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy Eventide equipment any time, and frankly, I can't wait to try their new pedals out and for their native software versions of their hardware, which are already available for DAE systems.

Yeah wish I hadn't sold my H3000 either. I think the plugs are only available for TDM stuff so far? Theres a newer generation of the H3000(Eclipse, H80000, etc) which is probably what alot of people are using these days but I'd take another H3000 if I found one.

I'm always surfing the bay for another...i had a H3000S and then a H3000D/SE. Ah the good ol' days with a rack bigger than a fridge :p
