I have been playing Marshalls for many years and as you all know, they have some adjustment available to select for the correct impedence to match the speaker/cab being used. I just picked up a brown '62 Fender Deluxe from a member here and would like to use it with an ext cab. The speaker in the Deluxe is 8 ohms. Do I have to use an 8 ohm speaker/cab? If I like the way it sounds with the 8 ohm internal speaker and a 16 ohm cab plugged in the ext speaker jack can I use it without fear of blowing up the amp?

...8-ohm ext. speaker is best...since the OT can "handle" loads down to HALF of its specification 8-ohms, and since internal 8-ohm in parallel with external 8-ohm is 4-ohms, or HALF of OT optimum spec of 8-ohms.

So am I OK as long as I keep my speaker load impedance over 4 ohms? If that is true then I can use the 8 ohm internal speaker and a 16 ohm ext cab which in parallel will be greater than 4 ohms?

Yes, that's correct.
