wondering if anyone might be able to answer this question for me:
if you get the collings 1 3/4" nut, is the string spacing also wider @ the bridge?
reason I ask, I love everything about the collings dread, except, I prefer the 1 3/4" nut, and there isn't a gtr near me that is 1 3/4", so I was wondering if they also widen the string spacing @ bridge as well (which i wouldn't prefer, I find martins' with the wider string spacing not as comfy to play)
thanks

I don't think so, however I may be wrong. Write to collings or call the music emporium at 781-860-0049.
Ask about "vintage" and "vintage-now" dimensions.

I believe that the standard for Collings is a 2 3/16" saddle spacing for a 1 11/16" nut and a 2 1/4" saddle spacing for a 1 3/4" nut. You may want to either call Collings (or a dealer of their guitars) to be sure, or check the Collings forum out and see what the fanatics have to say...

I have a D2HSB w/ 1-3/4" nut and standard spacing on the bridge. I have long slender fingers and find this neck very comfortable to play for both strumming and fingerstyle. The vintage now option is intriguing, but you can't go wrong with the standard neck at 1-3/4" IMO.
Standard Neck:
Nut Width 1 11/16" or 1 3/4"
Saddle Spacing: 2 3/16"
Width at 12th fret: 2 1/8"
Modified V profile.
Standard Vintage Neck:
Nut Width: 1 3/4"
Saddle Spacing: 2 3/8"
Width at 12th fret: 2 1/4"
Biggest, chunkiest neck we offer.
'Vintage Now' Neck:
Nut Width 1 3/4"
Saddle Spacing: 2 1/4"
Width at 12th Fret: 2.21
In between the Standard neck and the Standard Vintage neck in size. A bit rounder profile in the lower position, but gets more "V" as you go up towards the body.
CW Neck:
Nut Width: 1 23/32"
Saddle Spacing: 2 1/4"
Width at 12th fret: 2 3/16"
Modified V profile.

Starfish, thank you very much for the indepth breakdown, my only last question is (I havn't had a chance to call a dealer yet ), if you order the 1 3/4, is the standard (smaller) saddle spacing of 2 3/16 what you get ??

Yes. If you want wider spacing at the saddle then vintage now or standard vintage is the way to go.

check the collings website. the dread nut width is on there states 1 11/16 which i believe is standard. it is an upcharge for 1 3/4.
