View Full Version : Need Part for '71 Marshall Super Lead
My friend needs the plastic busing for the power cord. Anyone know where I can purchase one?
It wraps around the power cord (where it enters the chassis) and he doesn't know the size (neither do I).

Yeah, they have these at pretty much any hardware store.
They come in various sizes, and some of them have square holes for two wire cords...so look close and make sure not to get one of those.
You can also get them online at Metro:

Actually it's called a cable clamp :).
'Strain relief' is totally the wrong name as in fact these things cause strain on the cable by crimping it too tightly and then making it flex at only one small point... and often cause it to break there. They're an extremely poor design really, I have no idea why they became an 'approved method'.
A strain relief is something which distributes the flexing over a longer section of the cable and reduces the angle through which it can be bent - usually a longer tapering soft plastic or rubber sleeve that goes around the cable, sometimes molded onto it.
Sorry... pet peeve ;).

Yeah, it's scary how tightly these bite down on the cable. It's a serious ordeal with sweat and pliers installing them, too (in my limited experience). I'm suprised anyone considers them safe.
You can also use one of these which connects the same way (biting down insanely hard on the cord)...

...but has some actual "strain relief" happening. You can also get them from metroamp.com. I tried one in one of my Marshall builds, but they prevented me from fitting the amp on a shelf because of how they poke out. Otherwise, the seem like a cooler idea.

If you can't find one email me and I'll send you one.
Might also be a good idea to invest in a strain relief /cable clamp tool to insert that thingy. Doing that job with pliers is a real pain in the butt not to mention the risk of the pliers slipping and possibly scratching the backpanel of your vintage Marshall!
Don't want that :BITCH
Mouser or MCM Electronics probably has em.
