I'm new to this forum and enjoy reading what everyone has to say about their equipment. I notice a lot of people favor Suhr, Driskill, Lentz, and McNaught. I bought a JET three years back and feel that it's a tremendous guitar with a great sound and outstanding fit and finish. When I bought it I didn't know much about Ed Roman other than I thought he was a bit of a douche when I happened into his store. I was looking for a new guitar and was interested in his thoughts as he had such a huge selection. Of course he pushed his crap, but I was really impressed with the JET's he had, and at the time the prices were pretty reasonable. I bought one several months later and haven't been disappointed. It is worth every penny. I guess the purpose of this thread is two-fold. Number one: Don't overlook these instruments simply because of the Ed Roman element- Jeffrey Earle is a good dude and and a talented builder. Number two: Jeffrey, if you happen to read this, maybe you should consider ending your association with Ed so that people will give you a serious look. I feel that if you did you wouldn't be disappointed. Anyway, interested in what yuns have to say. Peace.

Welcome Singlemania, I'm a new member too. I dealt with Ed on the phone when purchasing the Quicksilver... he was alright with me. Glad to hear you're digging the Jet... I was soooo close to getting one of those instead. I just got to say that I found myself messing with my QUickSilver to get it to sustain more. My local luthier replaced the nut and said the old one was hollow... don't know if that's good or bad. But after forking over $3500 for my first very very very high end guitar, was it worth it? Hell NO! Where I'm at now with my guitar playing hobby is that I can pick up a $700 Edwards LP or Epiphone Elite and be much happier and richer. So that's pretty much my final analysis of it all. Do I care if Ed Roman is a dick or not? No. I just need a badass guitar so I can create music, he didn't provide it.

JET's are nice guitars and fortunate for us ED is not the exclusive dealers anymore for Jeff's guitars..i believe there are 2 other dealers where you can order one now

the only factors i don't like about JET's ...is i find the eclipsing moon inlays a little too large for "my" taste..if i ordered one i'd get just dots or some kind of smaller inlay

and i find alot of his ungrade options a little ridiculous price wise

hey

if you do a search on Jet here - you'll find other threads on here about them - there's at least one I remember

don't think too many people on TGP HAVE Jets - mainly due to they don't want to deal with "the goat F$@#$%%g Leprechaun" as the ever eloquent Mr Roman has been dubbed on "less polite" forums

I hear they are VERY resonant - but know none that have one - I missed getting one with a TREM (which made it MORE desirable to me) from a noted reseller I got my Driskill from - it went for $3100 - and yes - I'm STILL kicking myself for not getting that , but getting gas and spending twice that on a slew of lesser guitars.

please post a review of yours tone wise compared to other high end models.

Obviously tone, resonance, and sustain (to a degree) are subjective. The only guitar I've heard that sounds as good or has more sustain than my JET is a guitar a friend of my bought from a small luthier here in Cleveland. It is a prototype model from Hill guitars (www.hillinstruments.com). He bought it used and we were both surprised how good it sounded. It has a bolt-on neck, if I remember correctly, and sustains for days. My JET also has phenomenal sustain and delivers sounds closer to a strat or a PRS than a LP, most likely due to the scale length. The body is lightweight and very comfortable. The feature I like the most is the satin finished neck which is very, very smooth and easy to play. Like most people that buy boutique guitars, I love the fact that it was made by one guy that really cares about what he is doing. I'm a perfectionist and I appreciate the attention to detail that went into making my instrument. Not only is it beautiful, but it sounds great.
I don't want to slag-off Ed Roman too much because, in all honesty, I didn't deal with him all that much. But be careful if you deal with him. I know Infinity guitars carries JETs, but Ed's store has about 10-15 of them, on average, at any one time and is probably the best place to check out a wide variety of them at once. Ed is very opinionated and has a bad reputation on these blogs. I'm sure it's because there's some truth behind the rumors. If you're really interested, I'd suggest contacting Jeffery directly via his website (www.jetguitars.com) and ordering one from him. He is very quick to return e-mails and I've found him to be easy going in the few instances I've dealt with him. Hope this helps.

www.infinityguitars.com (http://www.infinityguitars.com) has some Jets in stock and the owner Randy is a great guy to deal with! If you are looking at a Jet, I'd check out his stock first.

I am currently owning three JET guitars.I love every one of them. They are incredibly hand made by Jeff himself.I bought mine many years ago, unfortunately, their price has gone up since then. The quality is second to none.IMO,they are worth every dollar I spent.

For some reason the resale value on these are not too good. I saw one sell on Ebay for $2500, no kidding.

REALLY? I'd jump on that! I've seen them go for $3800 - $4800

this has been listed on ebay for a while - I think the way ostentatious fret inlay is killing the sell.

I'm TOTALLY into this one!

http://arelayt.home.mindspring.com/JET_190_950.jpg

are these all Ed Roman bought? I heard you have to make sure he didn't build them - I know he does that w Jaros guitars - lies about who built it and has it made by his own guys. Friend of mine bought a "custom" Jaros from the Leprechaun ... for aeround $3K ... turned out later it was made by the Leprecahaun's guys and NOt by Jaros at all!

I purchased all these from Ed, and Jeff still builds all Jets himself - truly a 1-man operation.

As to Jaros, who made the guitar can genuinely be confusing. Ed bought the Jaros design from Jim Jaros a while back, made the guitar for a while, and then recently sold the Jaros design to the present owners. I understand the present owners are a couple of ex-Gibson Custom Shop employees located in TN.

I've owned all 3 versions of the Jaros and have kept all but the version Jim and his dad built. While both Ed’s and the present build are very close tonally and playability, I prefer Ed’s build because of a slightly higher attention to finishing detail.

my friend was OK with his Jaros - he loves it - just didn't like ER lying to him. I think he is upfront now as you said and also about the Bakers that he makes. Those "blackback" pups are another story - much controversy as to whether they are just SD custom customs that he paints black! LOL

do your have the blackback and do you hear a GREAT dif between them and other quality Seymour Duncan or other pups? ER says they are THE best pups IN THE WORLD!

I'd like to hear from someone that heard them and also WCRs - which are killer IMHO.

I have no beef w ER the Leprechaun ... and never will .. will NOT go there - too many friends I trust have been abused and ripped by him.

I WOULD like to see an Ed Roman - Don King promo scam down matchup
or Ed Roman - Al Sharpton bluster off! :munch:rotflmao

I don't have any experience with WCRs, but I've got blackbacks in most of my guitars and lover their tone - Jets, Gleduras. Viking & Quicksilver. However, they didn't sound as good to me in the Jaros that Jim and his dad built.

When Ed did my Jaros, Alan Dreher recommended other Duncans (I think they were 59-N and Pearly Gates-B, but I don't remember). These sounded much better to me and I think the new guys also follow Alan's preference.

Having recently A/B'd several Parker models with different wood combinations and SDs and DMs, my opinion is that the wood and the construction methods used, along with personal taste, will drive an individual’s preference for one pu vs. another. So while I appreciate your question, I doubt my opinion would be of much value to you.
