"ahem, (cough)...PLAY A P-BASS OR A JAZZ BASS THROUGH AN SVT!!"

alright, the "bass" category of discussion is complete. moderator, you may now close this area of the forum. no need to thank me.

Hmmm... I don't have the SVT yet... but I did get my P-Bass fixed!!!

That is the recipe for THE classic live rock sound. I use the SVT-4 Pro. It's more articulate and much louder and punchier IMO.

Hahahaha, no thanks. Think I'll stick with my Roscoe 6 string. I do have an Ampeg 4/10 HLF Pro which is the meanest 4/10 I've ever played. KILLER low end!

A pair of Sadowsky PJ5's through Genx Benz GBE 1200 head into a variety of GB and Accugroove cabs (haven't decided on my main cabs yet).

I've got a SVT-VR and a SVT-3Pro. I have a couple of P-basses that I run through them but no real Jazz basses as such. I do have a Roscoe Beck IV & V which are better than a Jazz, IMHO and they do sound nice through the SVT's and expecially nice through my '67 B-15-N!

I'm quite the RBV fan (on my second), but I don't know that they're "better' than jazzes (unless we're talking current Fender models).

Somehow I never realized that there is an RB IV model. I love the tone options on the 5 string model, but the neck is too wide for me to feel comfortable. Does the 4 stringer have the same tonal qualities of the 5?

A great combination to be sure. For me - I was diging the Mesa 400+ . Have since downsized to an Eden Metro combo. Have to send thanks to Mike Fuller, as his Bass Driver gets me VERY close to that Big SVT tone!

Cheers,

Edward

Ok I'll be the first guy to admit his Peavey Bass Amp fetish.
I play a 1995 MIA P-Bass through my Peavey Pro 500 head and Pro-410 cab. Had the 115 cab too, but it was too flubby.
Got a Custom Jazz bass being built for me my a VERY small builder down in Florida. I may have him build me a Fretless too.
I've owned/played just about every thing out there in the 24 almost 25 yrs of playing, and I'm hooked on the Peavey Pro bass amps and my P-basses.

i must be a wild man with my stingray thru a gallien krueger 2001RB...

I suppose us crazy bassists with our high-end solid-state amps and active pickups (not even used to play metal!) probably make very little sense to (and/or annoy the hell out of) a lot of guitarists.

Wouldn't have it any other way.:YinYang

I'd say 4+ years since the last post on this thread is plenty of time!

Letting it brew...

Aging, like a fine wine.

Or creating a patina of age.

Thread relicing, if you will.

Like a true TGP'er, I own none of the gear referenced in my original post. :o

Sold the stingray for... many other things, these days a Rickenbacker and a custom Precision relic. Unloaded the impossibly heavy GK rig for an Ashdown + custom 610, before downsizing to a Mesa Walkabout stack. Funny how that goes when we frequent forums, eh?

I'll play it only if YOU lift it!
I'm assuming you mean the 8 x 10 cab.

Little Mark 2 through Avatar and homebrew cabs. G&L, Yamaha, Ibanez, and MIJ basses.

All the thunder, weighs less than the SVT head alone. :)

Heartily agreed!! If it doesn't weigh 90 lbs, it's not even close!!

I once played my '41 Epiphone upright through a (real) SVT with two cabs! Had the volume control barely cracked and the roar was insane!!

ha! that was one of the first, if not the first, posts in the new "bass" section of TGP.

here it is four years later; i now happen to play bass in one of my bands, and what do i use? a P-bass, yes, but into what?

a sansamp bass driver into a crest power amp into two Low Down Sound 1x15" cabs, that's what! :hide2

B-15 + 4001 has served me well for the last 20 years. You can keep your fenders.
