Hello,

Well. Digital is a way of living :D Some explanations... I'm more into vintage and analog stuffs but, I guess that I would prefer a digital flanger.

I have a Boss BF2 and a Ibanez FL9, and with both, I don't like the strange noise which comes in circle, it's hard to describe but it's very metallic I find.

Here is an exemple (http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/media/product/mp3/15/150342_fl9_2.mp3)

Do you see what I mean?

So I guess that it's different with digital flanger isn't it? I used before a Boss GT3 and the flanger was ok for what I need, at fast settings, it was perfect for me.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Line 6, Liquaflanger (shameless promotion). I'm sure you'll get more suggestions in here soon enough. :)

I was going to post the same thing. Good suggestion.
Although, Cygnus, have you looked into the MXR 117-R Flanger?
It is it's own animal as far as a flanger goes.
Not better or worse than the top notch models, just different.

I was going through wanting the Zero through effect.
The Flanger Hoax was one flanger I was heavily looking into, but after trying out a 117-R I was sold, even though it doesn't zero though. The organic warmth and depth is what sold me.
I mostly use it to cop the old studio Hendrix "flange" effect.
It gets me there without having to spend a bunch of $$ on the FR or other extremely expensive models.

Good luck, Mass

I never tried the MXR but I fear that there is this same kind of metallic sound...

I will try the Liquaflanger...

What do you think about the BF3?

I really like my MXR EVH flange. Great stuff.

(If I am not mistaken) the BF-3 is a high band flanger that accenuates the upper frequencies of the flange.

The MXR is anythiing BUT metallic...think lush and organic instead of metallic.
Read through the reviews here:

Soundclips at Musicians Friend if you are interested.

I am not trying to strictly sell you on the 117, I just thought maybe you'd like to read up on it before you route it out.

Take care,

You might try the Rocktron Hypnotic Flange. Sounds decent to me.

DOD fx747 flanger, not that metallic classic flanger, this sounds more organic and have some cool chorusy vibe going on it.

I listened to the MXR Flanger and yes, it seems quite good, I heard a fast settings sound that's interested. In the slow settings, there's still this strange sound but it's less obvious than on my flangers.

The BF3 is the digital flanger from Boss that came after the BF2. The HiBand Flanger is the HF2 ;)

You know with the FL9 if you turn the feedback down that usually goes a long way towards cutting down on the swooshy metallic sound that I think you're describing. But generally that's how a flanger is supposed to sound.

Maybe you really want a Phaser???

The Electric Mistress is also pretty good at getting nice subtle warm flanger sounds. The DOD stuff is also pretty cool and worth checking out, and they're usually fairly cheap methinks.

Wilbo26 (http://www.thegearpage.net/board/member.php?u=15783) > That's what I'm wondering about flanger indeed. I don't know because with the flanger of my old Boss GT3 multiFX, I didn't have this bad sound that I don't like but I suppose it's a part of this effect, when it's analog. I need to know because I love this effect, I have a phase, Ilike it too but it's different, I use a lot of speed flanger.

AHHHHHHHHH...THe HF2..I knew one of them were high band.

Have you looked into the EH Flanger Hoax?
From what I have read, I have heard that it is a very versitlie flanger, has amazing sound and does a full "zero through".
I thought it looked extremely interesting and found it to be distinctly individual.

I almost snagged one some time ago, in fact, I think someone is selling one in the pedals emporium if you hit it with a search.
Take care,

Maybe you really want a Phaser???+1000!! :AOK

Seriously, try a good phaser. Both circuits create frequency cancellation, and if you want that type of modulation but don't like that "metallic" or "strange circling noise" I think you'll much prefer a phase shifter.

Hum really I'm not sure... And I already have a phaser ;)

I also can get the flanger sound that I want with my Johnson Jstation, and it's digital as well, I may put a sample here by the way.

Of course, if you really want to go crazy, you should try the Damage Control, Glass nexus; it does a very nice Flanger (as well as a ton of other "clean" effects.

Very organic sound.

Any flanger will sound metallic if you have the resonance/feedback set too high. The resonance knob on my mistress never goes up past 10:30 or 11:00. Not metallic at all, just nice and whooshy.

What do you think about the Maxon FL-301? It's analog but maybe less metallic than the BF2?

Shameless plug...I have a Ibanez DFL (Digital Flanger) up on Ebay now. IMHO, one of the coolest flangers I have played. End of plug...

Boss has the "metalic" sound to it which MXR and EHX do not.
I beleive that you will get more "metalic" sounds from any digital flanger than not.

For the money I love the Boss BF3. Great value. The Rocktron is not to shabby either and I think they are only 100.00.
