Well I finally got me a 01 R7 Goldtop that I like and I would like some advice on which WCR pickups I should get. My favorite tones are all classic rock and a Marshall. I was thinking either Darkbursts or a Crossroads neck and a DB or Fillmore Bridge. There is also the Bettset but I never heard them before. My favorite tones are the Allmans, Blue Sky etc. I would love to hear from all the good people who have used these pickups! I already have a RS kit on the way.
Thanks! :BEER

WCRs Rule! :dude
I love the DBs in my LP!
but,
I have been wanting to do a DB/CR combo in another LP and I'm not forgetting how good those GWs are too...
Also, looking into the BlackMagics for my one of my PRSi...

I have Goodwoods in an ES 335. Simply awe inspiring.

I've only tried GWs and CRs. I loved the GWs, and didn't really care for the CRs. They just sounded bland in comparison. The GWs just sounded more dynamic and 'sweet', to my ears. Not at all what i expected.

I'm gonna be honest.........I have the Betts set in my LP and I really dig them. Not alot of output about 6.7k I think, no mud whatsoever. But I find myself wishing it had just a bit more oomph sometimes. I had the Fillmores about 13k in a PRS McCarty that was really sweet. The Betts set ain't going no place.........but I really dug those as well. Hard to choose. I might go back one day. AS long as its WCR its all good I suppose. :AOK

I have had a few pairs of WCRs....I had the DB/CR (Bridge/Neck) combo in my first LP (a 2004 Classic).....they could do the Allman Bros. all day.......
Currently, I have a set of Goodwoods in my R8......they are much thicker and smoother....you can still get the grit out of them, though....
...to be honest....I dont think you can go wrong with any of Jim's pickups....he is an awesome winder and his customer service is first-rate.....you can email him anytime and he will probably respond within an hour......

R7 Goldtop with Fillmores in my 18 watt Marshall Clone = ABB tones up the ying yang. Roll back the vol and tweak the tone knob to get just about any bucky tone you want from ZZ to Warren H, Angus, etc....

You'd probably like the Darkbursts the best out of the choices you listed, but I wouldn't rule out the Goodwoods. They are Jim's best pickups by far in my opinion. Simply amazing!

I'm a fan of the Betset and the Crossroads neck/Godwood bridge set. They make my amp, my tone and my playing sing!

For what you describe you'd be in ABB/Gov't Mule heaven w/DarkBursts.
I have them in my R8 LP & McNaught VDC along with RS Electronics.
ABSOLUTELY NAILS IT!!
I've got Goodwoods in my Rossington SG..they're hotter sounding and gives you a bit more headroom gain wise. It's a great P.U. but I prefer the DB's.
For reference..I'm using a Diaz CD100 & a Marshall JTM45 (Egnater Modded) for amps

DB neck/GW bridge in my R7 Stinger/60neck,but I want the BettSet for my CS ES 345...WCR does it with period correct hardware/bobbins and period correct tone, with better fidelity and string separation.More of the good stuff, with more consistency, than the originals.

I'm still dialing in my Darkbursts but the neck is to die for! My LP was bright to begin with and I've backed-out the RS kit to get rid of some edge. If your guitar is bright to start with, I'd suggest 1 step at a time: Pickups, then electronics. The RS Treble Tamer 300K bridge pots might be in order...

+1 on the Darkburst bridge/Crossroads neck combo. That's probably my favorite set, followed very closely by the Goodwood/Darkburst combo. Hard to choose.

I have a CR neck & DB bridge in my R9. Love that combo a lot. Very powerful, clear sound (never any mud) with either 6L6's in the Rambler, EL84's in the 1974X, or 6V6's in a DBL Deluxe.. Put a CR neck and a Goodwood bridge in a McCarty and that became a love affair too. Hard to go wrong. Talk to Jim himself about what music you like to play and the tone your chasing, and he'll help you narrow the field. He's real good about that, takes the time to listen to what it is your trying to get to, tone wise.

I just put a set of Goodwoods in my Hamer Studio Custom on Monday, which replaced the stock SD '59s. I wanted the guitar to sound like a Les Paul but it was always a little bland and soft sounding. The Goodwoods have turned it into the most incredible sounding Les Paul style guitar I've ever heard. I highly recommend them.

Thanks for all the great advice! It sounds like all of His pickups are real nice just a matter of how hot you like.

Just dropped the BetSet into my Rossington SG -- helluva lot more BARK than before. Really like 'em -- they put the stock Burstbucker 1/2 set to absolute SHAME.

I also am amazed at how fat and articulate the Goodwoods are in both positions, but in the middle position (both PUs) with the tone rolled of a little I am now getting ridiculously good sounding ES-335 tones. I am amazed.

Well, putting in the A2 softened up the highs, and added more mids to the tone. It may have rounded the bass a bit too, but not in a bad way.
Sort of warmed it up all around.

I have had the BetSet for a few months and am loving them. Joe Glad to see you like the WCR's. I chose these over the Darkbursts which a good friend has, as these are a slightly lower wind and have a bit less push on the front end.

I had the DB/CR set in an old LP Classic....it could get Almman Bros. all day long.....I also had the GW set in an R8.....they are a little thicker sounding, but still sweet......if I were to try them again, I would probably get the GW bridge, CR neck combo.....
...btw....any set you get from Jim will make you happy....he is an awesome guy to deal with and his pickups are fantastic...

I have the bet set in my les paul and I am VERY happy. Whats great is I can get usable tones now with all pickup positions and volume levels (on the guitar)
They dont have alot of bass but I feel like they fit right into where a guitar should be in a mix. Very organic sounding and a really sweet high end, lots of snap too.
If I were to compare them to other high end classic sounding humbuckers I would say theyre like, Voodoo 59s but with a sweeter top end or Lollar imperials with slightly less bass.
