It has an Eminence Texas Heat in there currently but I don't think it's a good match. I need a great bass response (but it has to be TIGHT), with a smooth mid and upper frequency - not harsh but articulate. Used to have a Celestion G12L in another one and it sounded great but they don't make that model anymore and I refuse to support companies that out-source their products to other countries (Celestion, Fender, etc....) Thanks:crazy

Given the gaping hole in the back of the amplifier I wouldn't get too hung up on bass response. :) I replaced mine with Legends and they work fine after a 6 month break-in. Would something pricier sound better? Oh probably. There's plenty of bass outta my Concert 4x10 anyway. So much so I modified the first voltage amplifier stage with a u68 bypass capacitor. I can use the pull-knob to add or remove the stock 25uF. Humbuckers work best with the u68 in my experience.

how about adding a nice big closed back external cab? I have a vintage blonde 2x12 bassman and a semi-modified-imitation 1x12 bandmaster big-box cab. both have really solid bass, but the BM-clonish-thing is thunderous with a Cannabis Rex in it.

I think I explained myself wrong - It has good bass response already, and I know Concerts have a reputation of having flubby bass but this has been modded real good by billy carruth (Trey Anastasio's amp tech to have a tube rectifier and a tighter bass response w/ a smoother distortion). The Texas Heat speaker just doesn't seem to be "right" if you can at all understand that.??? I can't put my finger on it?

Celestion G12-65.
Tight bass, warm rich mids, smooth dark top-end. Perfect match for this amp.

Celestion G12-65.
Tight bass, warm rich mids, smooth dark top-end. Perfect match for this amp.Exactly what I changed to from a V30 (which wasn't bad, but developed some cone cry). The original poster is off on Celestion, as they build most of their wares in ROC, though old ones don't suffer that stigma. Kind of shortens the list. Is there a Red Coat that's supposed to be a G12-65?

I used to have one with an EV in it that sounded great. It was damn heavy, though.
Celestion G12-65.
Tight bass, warm rich mids, smooth dark top-end. Perfect match for this amp.

Another to consider is the Eminence Cannabis Rex for the same reasons. Very tight low end and a smooth high end. Killer speaker for under $100.

I had a JBL K120 in the ones I had. I have 2 former students that have Altecs in theirs.
Of course, I don't use much treble.;)

How about a Jensen C12K or Neo speaker?

I've never liked the Jensen speakers - to my ears they sounded very trebely or brittle?
