Please help me pick the color on my Soldano SLO

Help me pick a new color amp - thoughts/opinions/feelings. I have a Soldano SLO 100 that I recently purchased. I'm not really in love with the surf green that came with the amp. I have found somebody who really loves the surf green (it is sold and spoken for), but now I have to choose a new color.

I am mainly P&W and blues player, so nothing TOO crazy. If I found a tolex elsewhere that looked nice (I've been looking at Marshall Green), I could go with that, too. The colors with the black X through them are no longer available. Colors not shown are 'plain blue' and 'dark green lizard.'

The amp sits on top of a black Marshall 1960A 4x12 cabinet at the moment. I was hoping you could help me out. What are your thoughts? Please don't limit your thoughts to the poll only. Those are just colors I was partial to.

I have a serious case of aesthetic OCD... and I am a firm believer that, if your cab is black.. gotta have a black head:cool:

From the complete list my favs are orange, red, and the western-ish leathers.

I think there´s nothing that is as classy and hot at the same time as a white head... but maybe cream would go better with the gray-ish front and knobs in this case.

I also don´t think it looks bad having the cab and head in different colors, I have a wine-red head on top of a black cab and I´m fine with that. Granted, matching looks better, but different is OK too.

Thanks for all the input! I really appreciate everybody's thoughts on this. All the colors seem pretty close in popularity except the old purple. It's not making it any easier:D

I do like purple amps. I have a purple Naylor SC38 1x12 combo. I'm keeping the Naylor and didn't know if I should mix it up a bit. Is there such a thing as having too many purple amps?

I have had two boa SLOs, a boa HR100, and a boa HR50+. So my pick is boa. Along with purple, I think all Soldanos should be either of the two. My next one will definately boa again.

I know it's about the tone, but it should look cool. Maybe the answer is to own 2 Soldanos :worried

I voted Red, but my amp is black. You left out ORANGE!!!! I think the only amps that are sexy in red are DR. Z's

I think if you have researched lots and know that you will keep the Soldano forever than get whatever color you want.

However if you think you may sell it someday, get black.

I wimped out on anything different. I went with black. The new head shell is on order from Soldano. I'm hoping to have it by the end of the month.

Am I the only one who finds this thread a bit odd? I can understand people asking opinions on equipment that they haven't tried or owned, but help with choosing the colour? You'll be asking us to help choose what notes to play next (it's Eb by the way), or to help choose your next girlfriend (I had one once but I when I a/b'd it with a different model that I borrowed from a buddy I realised how crappy it was, so I sold it on ebay!):JAM

Different strokes, you know? I am very happy with the sound of the amp, but didn't love the color. There are too many choices from which to choose as far as amp coverings go. I was just curious to get others opinions.

As far as the notes, I prefer C. Girlfriends are a different story... I don't think my wife would approve ;)

That was my exact thought. The only amp I haven't sold yet is my Naylor Super Club 38 in PURPLE that I purchased new back in '95. I have actually wanted a SLO100 since before I bought the Naylor. I think it was some time around late '93 or early '94 when I was wanting to get one. A lot had to do with the tone Clapton was getting in the early '90's. I have purchased quite a few different high end amps since then, so I figured it was time to take the plunge.

I agree with you, boogieplaya. I get more compliments on the purple amp than any other. A lot of people really do hear with their eyes. If it looks cool, then it must sound cool :AOK. I'm guilty of that to a certain extent. I have purchased some pedals just because they looked cool. I have kept a couple, but sold more than I have kept.

I went with black. It's classic and goes well with just about any color speaker cabinet. I also got all new tubes and a new footswitch from Soldano. It's a cool amp.

My brother just saw a surf green SLO like my old cabinet on ebay. According to the listing, fewer than 6 were made. It's funny that just because a $250 head shell is a different color, some try to justify such a premium. The amp still sounds the same :AOK
