So, Im playing with this modded Champ, Beefed up PT and OT. Tubes are 5Y3GT, JJ6V6S, RCA 12AX7A (60's NOS)
I started looking at voltages and have some interesting readings.
Anode 399V
Screen 387V
cathode 25V
This is really looking like 6L6GC territory, What do you guys think?
I ran it better than 2 straight hours with no oddities but thats looking like some pretty close to the readings limits for a 6V6.
I remember reading someones post about thr JJ6V6 being fairly durable but how close to the fry zone is this If I use an NOS 6V6?

...excerpted from another forum:
QUOTE ========================
"...I've been doing a little "diggin around" and here's what I've found in the way of JJ-6V6S "test" data:
Plate Power Dissipation, Ppd:
17W "static" at "idle" at 40mA / 425Vp.
21W continuous "idle" at 50mA / 425Vp - no stripe.
30W continuous "idle" at 70mA / 425Vp - narrow red stripe.
35W 10-minutes "idle" at 81mA / 425Vp - wider red stripe.
Maximum Plate Voltage, Vp:
"Matching" performed at Vg = -36V and Vp=Vs= 400V(!).
17.5W continuous "idle" at 38mA / 460V(!!) (BF/Bassman)
15.3W continuous "idle" at 30mA / 510V(!!!) (SUNN Amp)
Reliability:
...only nine (9) reported tube failures in 6,000 tubes!
...that's fewer than "one-in-600"!
...only 0.1mA "drift" after 10-min. at 81.4mA/425V!
Just MY opinion, but the JJ-6V6S looks more like a 6L6GC but with 6V6 gm and rp values!"

Wow,, looks like I am pretty much in the ballpark then.
Now I need to try a couple NOS tubes and get the voltages, My guess is they will basically be entirely different.
One thing for sure, this is pretty darn loud for a Single Ended 6V6 amp.

I build my amps with about a 430VDC power supply (plate voltage) and have had NO problems with JJ6V6S tubes. Those are the only ones I use with my 18W and 36W amps; I like the JJ6V6S sound for my stuff better than a "traditional" 6V6 sound like the Tung-sol reissues.

I haven't seen a NOS 6V6 that couldn't handle at least 430 volts plate to cathode. No sweat if biased properly.
The JJs, which are more like a 6L6, are reported to handle upwards of 450 with no problems.

So if I've got 390V plate, 23V cathode, a 250ohm shared cathode resistor giving 46mA per tube in a 5E3ish circuit then this is OK?
This is with the RCA Blackplates I just got from you Mike and I was worried that these settings were way off?
It was running previously with Brimars at 21V cathode and seemed to be fine.
Just MY opinion, but the JJ-6V6S looks more like a 6L6GC but with 6V6 gm and rp values!"
So what would the volume difference be like if you were to switch from 6L6s to JJ 6v6s?
