I have a marshall slash amp that sounds wonderful but I've noticed that there is a mild hum from the transformers when the power is turned on - this is while the amp is still on standby.
My alessandro english on the other hand is dead quiet when the power is turned on - I have to literally stick my ear on the head to confirm that the power is turned on.

is this normal ? it's been like this from day one - my amp is now 11 years old and has never given problems - I just want to know if there's anything I can do to get rid of the hum without effecting the tone.

just to confirm.
The hum is not coming from the speakers but from the head itself - it sounds like a low hum from the transformers ?

any suggestions?

Thanx

The transformer hum is normal. I've got a Marshall 2100 SL-X, same age, that does the same thing. I think these 2 amps are basically the same amp with different faceplates. Play louder than the hum..........:roll

Cool - I was just checking if maybe there's a solution!
Maybe I'll change all my transformers to Mercury magnetics - but I'm scared of losing the tone of the amp!
