I have sold one o f my amps to fund my daughters braces and will soon sell one of my Historic 1960 LP's.I will have enough left over for another amp.I'm in need of a dedicated clean amp.I've been learning all I can about the Cow Tipper 45.Seems like a great amp to add to my rig.Blackface cleans with a large amount of clean headroom is what I'm needing. It would be paired with my Two-Rock K&M Custom 50 watt which I run through a TR 112 cab.The Bruno would be run through my TR 212 cab.I have played a friends CT 22 combo last year but,of coarse it was not loud enough for what my needs are. So,my main concern is will the CT 45 compete well with my almost dimed TR 50 watt yet still remain mostly clean with a Les Paul and a Tele?

I own a CT45 2x12 combo, and it should be able to handle the task you speak of. The difference between 45 & 50 watts is virtually nothing
the Cowtipper stays pretty clean until about 3/4 of the way up, and at that point it is frickin' loud... IMO - best black faced tones money can buy

Thanks.
I know a 5 watt difference is basically nothing.Just wondered if the CT would remain mostly clean with buckers between 5 and 7 on the volume.Sounds like it will.

in my opinion.

Whether you agree or disagree about it sounding sterile, it's definitely not the same thing as using a blackface for the task you're talking about. A blackface has much more scooped mids in its EQ curve. The CT45 has far more pronounced mids.

I had one for a while - top quality blackface cleans; great for Jazz. If you play dirty or distorted, it will be too loud.

Tag should be coming along shortly after that last post :)

Seriously though, the Cowtipper is one of the best Blackface inspired amps out there. But running a 50 watt K&M Custom dimed for your gain tones, you might want something with a little more headroom if you want your clean volume at the same db level. Cowtipper 90? Dual Professional? Blackface Twin?

If you love th ct 22, just go ahead and get the ct 45. It's loud enough for most peoples needs. If you love Bruno, you'll dig all the different bf ct's

It can, if you dial it that way. But it can also get very scooped. I think it sounds a bit too thin unless the mids are up there a bit. That's just my preference.

+1 ... amps are rated by clean wattage. No way the 45 could keep up if you want the same volume level.

For "normal" gigging volumes using the cowtipper 45 and stage volume only, I found plenty of absolute no breakup clean headroom available for a medium sized club (100-200 people). Outdoor gigs I am not sure as much as the ones I have done always have been mic-ed.

If you can play that loud though where you gig try the CT45 at a super loud clean sound and hit it with a skreddy top fuel fuzz pedal. Its pure friggin nirvana. Tube screamerish stuff and any pedal really sounds so damn good through it too you may only have one amp up there with you at the end of the day :)

Even with the volume at 10:00 pedals sound awesome I would love to be able to gig with the ct45 dimed.

Great amp, not sterile in any way. Smooth, soft but still present top end, even mids, big pillowy bottom. Great reverb.

Another vote for more wattage. A dimed K$M will require a much larger clean amp....remember, you can always add dirt, but you cannot add clean.

A blackface Twin gets my vote.
