Anybody here play on a Darkstar pickup? I keep hearing great things and am wanting to try one.

I have one on order... I've played one before and it sounds great through my Pure 64.
(edit) Oops, I'm talking about the DarkBurst: http://www.crcoils.com/New_PIckups/DarkBurst/darkburst.html

I'll most likely be trying them on my next bass, but it'll be a while. It's been on the back burner for 6 months and keeps getting shoved back further.:puh

Yeah, I was gonna try one on a bass I had here, but it sold before I could
get a Darkstar. Now I have a few more bass projects that are set for J and P pickups, the Darkstar will have to wait.
But the concept still intrigues me.

I had one in a Skyline Glaub and honestly it did nothing for me and I sold the bass pretty quickly on the TalkBass forum. I brought it to a rehearsal and the guys in the band didn't like it. I think it didn't have enough mids as the guys were used to my other Laklands and Hofner Club bass that I had been using that are very punchy. I am sure you will get other comments saying it's the greatest thing, but in my experience it didn't suit my style or band (original pop-alternative rock). I even spoke to the manufacturer who recommended how to set the pup, but in the end I just didn't care for it......I'm sure you milage may vary! It's great to have choices.

There are a lot of Darkstar users over on the Dudepit forum so that might be a great place to check for info. I think they even still have a forum for 'em there too.

I haven't tried one myself, but every sound clip I've heard reminded me of a big, wooley, ballsy P pickup. So in other words: fantastic! :D

I've got one in a limited edition Lakeland that I have and I like it alot!. It is high in output but has a wide bandwith with a little bit of a Hi-Fi feels to it's tone. I'm planning to drop a set into my Guild Starfire reissue when I get the chance. It's a very nice sounding and performing pickup IMHO.

They are great sounding high output PUPs.
I have a 1973 Fender Musicmaster with a single Dark Star.
And ,a 1973 Guild M-85 II with two Dark Stars.
Their sound is unique, punchy, articulate, clear and joyfull to
the ears of players and audiences.....:dude
They can be most appreciated at Gigs were their tone
really cuts thru the rest of band.
Just posted a link on the " Short scale bass pics " thread, if anyone is intrested.....
