Hi all-
Just got a Purple Plexi today and tried it out for about an hour. These are my initial impressions as playing experince at stage volume levels is required to run this pedal through its paces. By the way, these impressions are also based on A/B-ing the PP with the Bad Monkey, MI Blues Pro, CMATMODS OD-3, MJM BLues Devil

1) this pedal makes the stings FAT, like I went from 10/42's to 12/52's; fatter sounding than the other pedals;
2) chording: the notes are clearly definable; you hear every note-no mush, just simple definition;
3) backing off the volume cleans up the OD ALOT, and at the same time doesn't thin out the sound;
4) the PP is non-TS like; OD through-out the spectrum with no numps, humps, or valleys
5) the controls are complex, i.e., many different combinations are available and I haven't even begun to understand how these controls interact.
6) sounds great with both single and humbucker guitars;
7) it sounds like a tube amp overdriven (I OD a Fender DR and recognize the sound and feel).

That's all I can say now; it's a keeper that I have to spend time with.

Any helpful hints on control settings would be great!

I got my PP last week and it totally rocks! I like to stack it through a BOR or use it drive my Retroman Sybil and man it always sounds great - I can even play it through a clean amp to get some grind.

As for the controls, there are a lot of combos and sounds. I was a little confused about the third control, but the explanation I got from Sean was that it's not a tone control but a separate circuit within the PP. The Purple Plexi is a COT50 with a second gain stage with another control that fattens up the sound. Another forum members suggested what the third control does and I think I agree: it really thickens up the sound when you pump your guitar's volume; it's less noticeable when you back off the volume.

I got mine yesterday and had a chance to play it at bedroom levels. I'll let it rip tonight at rehearsal. I was a little confused by the "intense" knob at first. It seems like it subtley thickens the tone, but hopefully that'll become clearer tonight when playing at full volume.

With my setup, I start with all knobs at 1:00. If the sound needs tweaking, I back the intense to 11:00.

If that's too much gain, I will back the middle knob down to 9-10:00 and go from there.

Here's my settings for use with a fender amp...

Volume- 10:30
Gain- 12:30
Body- 1 to 2 o'clock

Also.. keep in mind that like the COT50... it sounds and reacts better without buffered peds in front of it.
