I have not tried that cab, but I used to own a Phil Jones Briefcase. It's a tiny 100W combo with two 5" speakers. It sounds amazing for its size. It's nothing like a tube amp with big speakers, but it's super, super hi-fi. Might be too hi-fi for some players. It's audiophile clear and clean. And those tiny drivers really do put out big bass.

Phil Jones used to work design for bose some years ago. He also designed a 650 watt all tube bass head using a quad of 813 beam tetrodes. Very spendy (10k list?), but it sure got my curiosity up about those tubes.

Hi, I also have the small PJB Briefcase. I like it's clean sound but I think it's too shy for the stage or even for a rehearsal. I am planning to buy the full set of PJB rig - an amp and two cabs. Saying that I have to add that I am a proud owner of Acoustic Image Focus 2R Series III head (smokes!!!) and Schroeder 1210 and 12+Light cabs. I also have some Markbass stuff, but...

I'm getting very satisfying "upright tones" from my Lakland Skyline Duck Dunn prototype, with a relatively high action, through the Phil Jones Flightcase. And I'm continuing to discover lots of new tones as the EQ is very sensitive and responsive. Though it's "hi-fi," I'm also able to dial in a decent "earth tone" for Jamaican-style basslines. Not to mention pick tones: the input control allows tonal possibilities from Steve Swallow to Carol Kaye and Phil Lesh. I credit this amp with helping to focus my technique, due to its clarity and responsiveness, and for continually "encouraging" me to make the leap beyond fretless, straight into upright. Because it tells me exactly what I'm giving it. I'll probably still grab a fretless first, but in either case, the Flight Case is all I need. For stage performers who need big volume and pressure, a Phil Jones combo would just be awe-inspiring.
