I've got a couple guitars- both acoustic and electric that could use a good setup and lookover by someone who really knows what they're doing. Not looking forward to paying an arm and a leg... anywhere in NYC is fine.
suggestions? thanks!

Evan has set up a couple of my guitars. Great setups and very reasonably priced.

I just had a PLEK job done at Peek-a-moose guitars. Amazing!!!

The only one who touches my stuff is Ric McCurdy. He's on Hudson, 1 block north of Chambers

Evan is great....he has worked on my electrics and acoustic. Quick turnaround, good prices and a 30 day "bring it back for a tweak" policy.

I use Evan - he's a nice guy and does good work.

Recently, I made the mistake of going to First Flight Music to have some new PUPs and electronics put in my Tele (mainly because they are close to my apartment) and they totally screwed me over - they quoted me $50 when I dropped the guitar off, then called me up a couple days later and said it would be $120 - I told them no way/forget about it, but the tech said that that he had already started the process - I offered him $80 and he accepted - when I got the guitar home, though, it sounded like shit and was shorting out - couldn't even play a whole song - and there was something rattling around under the pickguard. I took it to Evan (which I should have done in the first place) and he fixed it up - turns out they didn't install the Switchcraft jack that was included with my electronics upgrade kit, they did a shoddy soldering job on the pots and jack, and someone had dropped a spring into the electronics cavity, which might have been causing the shorting. What a mess!! Evan hooked me up, though, and now it plays like a dream.

Big thumbs up for Matt at 30th St. a little pricey, but worth it. Rick Kelley at Carmine St. is alot cheaper, but a little inconsistant. i've had great work done by him, and some not so great work. but i'm not ready to throw in the towel with him yet.

Matt @30th St. is great, I've gone to him for years.

I've also had work done by Norio Imai that was 2X the price, but flawless.

i always go to the new york guitar repair guy.

It's a hike to go up to 103rd st. but it's worth it.

he does things quickly and only charges $50 for a setup.
