a month or so ago, i purchased a used sovtek mig60 off of ebay. the seller sold it saying that the output transformer had just been replaced and that it had all new tubes in it. it sounded great and worked fine....until yesterday. i was playing and accidentally ran over my cable with a chair... sound stopped. so i figured that i just shorted a cable. i switched cables and still got no sound.
a guy at work suggested that i check the tubes to make sure they are all working. there are 3 12ax7s in the preamp and 2 el34 power tubes. the preamp tube closest to the power tubes wasn't glowing. so today, under the advice of the guy at work, i went and bought 3 new 12ax7EH tubes to try to fix the problem. i installed them. i still get no sound. i don't even get a hiss from the speakers with the vol turned all the way up.
i've tried 3 different cables going from the head to the cab. now that i've replaced all 3 preamp tubes, all of the tubes light up and appear to be working fine. what else could be causing this problem? i'd hate to take this amp to a shop and spend $100 to fix a simple issue. my thoughts now are that it is a bad output transformer. is there anything that might cause the amp to blow a brand new output transformer?
