I have an early 60's Rivoli. The previous owner added a pbass pickup in addition to the normal humbucker. It makes it a great player that's extremely versatile, but most of its vintage value has been lost. I am thinking about replacing the original humbucker with a Darkstar.

What other options are out there? I play guitar and got this bass only to mess around and jam with...so I am not too versed with whats out there in the bass world. But, Darkstars seem like a perfect fit for this bass. Also, what kind of value does the orginal humbucker have? Is it worth hanging on to, or selling?

The Dimarzio Model One is a direct replacement for the neck humbucker. It's a lot less expensive than a Dark Star and IMO sounds better. But I think the Dark Star is way overhyped.

The original neck humbuckers usually sell in the $150 range on eBay. But if yours has the black plastic cover it may bring a little more.

Go with the Dark Star.
It will be the perfect companion for that bass.
Oh, I got two DS basses myself.........................:dude

I say keep the original humbucker in there. It can produce that Dark Cloud tone that only they can do. These Epi's and the Gibson EB-2's were famous for this tone.

I'd like to keep it because it's original, but this being a player and not a collector, I would ideally get something a little more articulate. Nothing too modern, I am into the vintage tones, but just a little more articulate.
