Preamp tube question on a Gibson Falcon GA19RVT amp?

In an article in vintage guitar Mag a few months ago, bill Yates mentioned rewiring the preamp tubes (socket) (6eu7) to use 12AX7's. Does anyone know the correct procedure to do that and would you be willing to share that with me (and the forum)? 6EU7 tubes are getting very hard to come by and are expensive. Thanks

Huh? They're not difficult to find and they're half the price, or less, than 12aX7s of the same brand.

Oh - I was surfng around and saw that they weren't in production anymore and were selling for about 15.00 each? this was at the tubedepot.com My bad?

anyway - is there a way to substitute the 6eu7's for 12ax7's?

MY bad - the tube that is getting hard to get is a 7199 - NOT the 6EU7's. sorry for the mis-information - but i still need to know if the substitution for the 12AX7's can be done?

Yes it can, in some/most amps.

When I modded my Bogen amp from a 6EU7 to a 12AX7 I just looked at the pinouts for each tube and swapped them accordingly.Go to
Frank's Electron Date sheets and lookup each tube.Then simply print off the pinouts and swap them.Done.
