In my Gibson GA19RVT, the V2 socket is supposed to have a 7199 tube in there - when I went to chenge them out, there was a 6C4 in there - and the 7199 wouldn't even go in - the socket is smaller. The schematic says 7199. It doesn't appear to have been modded - everything look as it should be?

Well it probably because you have the wrong schematic...
Here's a link to another forum, http://music-electronics-forum.com/showthread.php?t=2632
The first poster says he has a copy of the proper schematic and is willing to make copies.

My schematic shows a 6C4 as well. It's the Falcon that you have? It's the reverb driver tube.

Thank you very much both of you - that's an interesting forum - very informative. -
Yes it's the falcon - says so on the front panel!
Has 3 6Eu7's, 2 6V6'sn a 5Y3GT and a 6C4 (not a 7199)
Psychonoodler - would you mind shooting me a copy of that schematic? I'll go to the other fourm and register, log on and see if the other poster is willing to send me a copy but being that I would be a newbie, can't say for sure? Thanks everyone - I love this forum TGP - yea!!

sure.Send me a PM and I'll forward it to you.
I think the Falcons use to use the 6C4 then switched to the 7199 or vise- versa.
Falcon's used both the 7199 and the 6c4. The majority seem to say that the 7199 version sounds a lot better. The common complaint of the one with 6C4 is that it is way too bright and has a very thin sound. Not much volume and gain.
I have a 64 Falcon with 6C4 and I changed a few things to get it sound to my liking.

I just ordered the correct tube. Mine sounds real good to my ears - not much volume but a pretty thick sound.
