A friend left his spare bass amp over at my house about 2 years ago. I think I have inherited a bass amp. I opened it up to see about the preamp tube . No wonder it was not working on the tube side, no tube. So I am thinking probably a 12ax7 but was wondering if anyone knew for sure.

I don't know for sure- however, my amp has a 12ax7. I think it's a Chinese Ruby in it... Don't recall for sure... However, after swapping out a few tubes, it seems to like that tube the best- for what I want the amp to do.

It should be a 12aX7. My buddy had one of those and I let him try several different 12ax7's from my stockpile of mostly NOS stuff. I'm pretty sure he ended up using a Sovtek 12AX7WB, which is a $10 tube. It worked great in that amp. Proves once again that if it sounds good, it is good.
