I made it past that round, but lost in the semi finals.

It was strange, I played Politician by Cream (funky blues based riff) while the other 3 people played more virtuoso'ish songs...

I'd say 2 out of 3 of them played sloppy, out of tune, not together with the band... but I didn't make it through because although my song was (IMO) Nailed, It wasen't as complexe of a song, so they chose the other guys.

Just me thinking out loud, but a Really well played wins out against a technical song beaten to shit any day.

It was cool though, because the day of the final, I played with the school jazz band in front of the whole school, a song called Chunk Of Funk. the music director said "You've got 12 bars, but feel free to take 24"

Later that day, guitar war final... it was an improv round... with 2 NON improv players. Later that day after grudgingly giving the title away to one of the 2 finalist, each judge came up to me throughout the afternoon and said "You know, I think you may have inadvertently won the final earlier today."

I guess it made it worth it. I had my "good guy moment"
During a freestyle section, one of the guys broke a string on his guitar (with a Floyd!)

instead of sitting back and watching him, really not sure what to do next, and having to forfeit the round, I ran up to the student council as fast as I could, pulled my SG out, ran down to the stage and slide the case along the stage where he managed to plug in just in time for his next turn to play.
