Anyone know what one of these is worth. It's pretty heavily played, scratches, wear everywhere but all original parts.

$5500-$8500, unless you are Rudy on 48th st, in which case, $11,500.

There's a price guide for vintage Fenders in the August issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine...which I don't have on hand at the moment, but it's somewhere around here...

You didn't say if you were selling or buying so I'll just assume you're like everyone else on TGP and your buying.

A lot of factors go into pricing that bass. The VG article covers a lot of it. Condition, Originality and Rarity all factor in pretty heavily. To give you an idea. I turned down (limited avail. of $$$ on my part) a sunburst '64 re-fin in well played but fair condition, all there, with original parts and no case about a year back @ $2500. I'm pretty sure that seller wouldn't make that same deal today.

Original basses only:

If it's a sunburst with a shrunken tortoise guard and you like the way it sounds I'd say start low and be prepared to go pretty high. If it's any other color with a green guard and you're sure of it's legitimacy I'd say pay whatever they're asking/you can swing and enjoy your new bass. If I were a betting person (and I'm really not) I'd say just about any '64 P is going to continue to appreciate so I really don't see you getting hurt much in the long run if the bass sounds good.

If it doesn't sound good, it's heavy, ugly or doesn't appeal to you for some other reason (either tangible or not) then don't lay out the bucks.

Let's be fair to Rudy on 48th St.

He has to price his stuff at a level the customers will pay. On a pretty regular basis. Or he's out of business.

He's been around a while, so the only test of pricing that matters says he's mostly right.

Actually I'm looking to get rid of it, I already have it in my possesion...

Took off the neck, found 5SEPTEMBER66C so I guess it's not a 64. Does that make too much of a difference?
