Come on...you've gotta give us more than that!!

OK.........it sounds just as good as my 67 plexi 50 watt JTM Marshall.
I sold my LV 55 which was a great amp as well..........just to crunchie and not quite clean enough.Too much gain for my tastes. That said ,it did exactly what it was made for. If I could have afforded to I would have kept it.

The Club has sweet clean sustain and terrific warmth. I have only played my Teles through it but what a great sound. The tone contols are just as reactive as the JTM. Great fat, solid low end through a 2-12 bluesbreaker open back cab with English Greenbacks. Dial in the mids to suit and roll the presence back.......dial up the highs and boy did those Teles sound wonderful. I would love to hear it through one of Greg's 4-12 cabinets with 20 watt heritages!!!!!!
This one has the solid state/tube set up and I like the tube rectifier better so far.
The uncanny thing is it sounds just like the 67 JTM with the JTM being just a tad warmer. The JTM has the original Amperexes in the pre stage so that may account for the very slight differences. I will probably swap them in the coming days just to hear what it sounds like.

The Club was purchased so I do not have to take the Marshall out although it is a very rugged amp.

Greg offered to set the Club up exactly like the JTM which was supposed to be a tad cleaner but I wanted his stock set up and if it did not meet my expectations he would change a thing or two. NO changes are needed.

One always has to wonder when someone says " This ------ is just as good as my ________ or maybe even better"

Well ................

And just remember along with this fine amp you also get Greg Germino!!!!

And you cannot beat that!!!!!!!!!!!

OH yeah....it's RED with a matching RED 2-12

Club 40 is one of the best amps in the world IMO.
You will have to pry mine from my cold, dead hands :)
I mentioned on another thread that the record we just made is all Club 40.
We tried other amps and nothing could top the 40. Clean, overdriven, massive wall of fuzz, all sounded stunning thru the 40.
Greg is a genius.

I've always loved the clips of the 40. I owned an LV 55 but it was lame compared to my 68.

Thanks Ricoh. I was having some concerns over the difference between the Club 40 and the LV55, having heard nothing more than the clips. You finally described it in terms I understand. Gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on a Club 40. In red. I've heard the red ones sound best.

Got my Club 40 about 6 weeks ago.Been playing through a Marshall 4x12 with Greenbacks. After many amps, thought it couldn't get much better----BUT---Greg's 4x12 with Heritage Ms arrived Friday ---Well worth the extra $.Thick beautiful cleans and smooth break up starting around 7 on the volume. There's nothing like a 4x12 unless you have two! Also prefer the tube rect. over SS.--- Enjoy!!

This one has been on my radar for a while now, the ability to switch from SS to Tube rect is agreat option also.

Congrats on the new amp:BEER

Just a footnote......I switched out the TAD pre amp 7025s for some RCA grey plates that I had. Warmer and a tad less gain but smoother and a little more sustain. I also tried some old Amperex's and they were really close to the RCAs.

What EL34's did it ship with? Had a chance to try different yet? Mine has Svetlana's, not the Winged C type, so I'm curious about any tone differences between brands.

It shipped with Groove Tube EL's.
Greg G. says he uses both Winged C and GT's
with the GT's having less pronounced mid's. Of course he recommends Mullards in the power section and Brimars or Mullards in the pre but man those are $$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!! As I am not savvy with biasing the GT's will stay. He did replace the old Sylvania EL types in my 67 plexi Marshall as he thought the winged C's sounded better when he brought it back to life.

congrats on the amp. It is one of the best out there. It is shocking how full and rich a basic E chord can sound with the volumes on 4. These work great w/ 6V6's to drop the volume a bit. This retains the original amp sound better than an attenuator.
