Time to retube the SVT. Your opinions on the best 6550 (or other type -anyone tried KT88s?) new prodution tubes for this amp.

I've played through an SVT with the new Tung-Sol 6550's in it and that amp sounded killer, just like a good Ampeg should. I can't speak about tube life, but they're sure as hell cheaper than NOS.

For 6550's the Winged C (SED) 6550's are quite good.
JJ KT88's are the poop for bass as well.
The EH 6550's are not bad either

I'm stuck on Groove Tubes. I had a '67 (I think) ampeg SVT w/ groove tubes in it & it was incredible. It had something like 6 - 6L6's in it & about a dozen pre amp tubes in it (if I remember correctly). It was nuts...

I like the sound of the SED winged C 6550s, and they are very reliable and long-lasting.
