General consensus on the G12-70M's is not favorable. Weak bass, some say sterile sounding. Ive got 2 of them in my closest. I try them once in a while and then remember why they are in the closest! No experience with the G12K-85 buts its got to be better than the 70's. Bob

70, 75, 85s are all related and share some similarities.

G12M-70 - Take whatever good there is in a G12T-75 (fat athoritative bass, articulate highs) and diminish those qualities. Sounds like a weak, watered down, yet more ear piercing 75 IMO. The ONLY worthless Celestion IMO.

G12K-85 - They renamed it as the G12K-100 and is currently available. Take a 75 and slap a Heavy magnet on it. Result is you get bigger, more solid bottom, more mids. Less high end accentuation than the 75. Overall an improvement IMO.

The G12-70 has significantly less treble than a G12T-75. The 75 is scooped, the 70 is midrange centered. I've had both, but still have two 70s in a 4x12 mixed with Webers to fill in what's missing. If you need to save money, you could get these speakers cheap to mix with something of higher quality.

I love the G12M-70 mixed with a second speaker as well. I have that and a G12H30 (70th Anniv.) in my 2x12 at the moment. I also picked up one of the 20 dollar Classic Lead 80 clones. That thickens up the low mids when matched with the G12M-70. I like the G12M-70's but when they operate as the only speaker they really sound like ass. You have to mix it up for them to come alive.
