I'm thinking about buying one of these:

...on ebay for $139.99 plus $19.99 from this guy:

http://cgi.ebay.com/LINE-6-POD-2-0-GUITAR-MULTI-EFFECTS-PROCESSOR-w-AC_W0QQitemZ110154606049QQihZ001QQcategoryZ41419QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I looked at one at the Guitar Center for $199 plus 8% tax.

Anyone have one? What do you think?

I currently only have a Fender Blues Jr amp, Boss RC20XL loop pedal and an Ibanez Tube Screamer pedal. I went into the store to look at a Boss Delay pedal and the guy told me about the Line 6 Pod.

Is the pod worth it? Or can you get much better features off of separate pedals? If the pod is as good as separate pedals, would it serve any purpose to keep the Tube Screamer?

(I've only been playing since January so any advice is appreciated.)

Let the learning experience begin. First off, it's digital, that doesn't make it bad in and of itself but there is a difference between digital and analog that you need to start researching. For a beginner it can be a useful device and help you to get familiar with different types of effects and amp sounds.

I've never cared much for digital ODs' but I've had digital modulation pedals and processors that I got good use out of. There are also issues involving feel and dynamics that will pop up as you go along. Hopefully others will chime in and give you some tips.

This was the delay pedal I looked at:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_boss_dd3_digital_delay_pedal?full_sku=10012619 9

It is catalogued as digital, also. So there is no discernable advantage over the Pod Line 6, is there?

I had a pod.The thing that I liked was you can plug a headphone into it.They sound better if you can run it thruogh an effects loop.I sold the pod after about 3 months. It was not for me.

Why did you not like it? And what do you like better?

I think I can get the tone I like by either plugging straight into a non master volume amp,and useing the volume control on my guitar to go from clean to mean.Or adding a pedal when I cant crank my amp.

I have the floor version called the XT Live but the base engine is the same. Let me try to answer your questions as objectively as possible.

What do you think?I really like mine but it took me a little while to understand the capabilities and how to manipulate them. Line 6 has a very active and supportive user community and also has an online tone bank of user submitted patches. They are tagged with the names of the artists or songs that inspired them. Some are great. Some are not. But if you find the tone you like there it can save you a lot of time of tweaking and messing around.

I currently only have a Fender Blues Jr amp, Boss RC20XL loop pedal and an Ibanez Tube Screamer pedal. I went into the store to look at a Boss Delay pedal and the guy told me about the Line 6 Pod.The delays in the POD were mostly taken from the DL4 which is a frequently used delay pedal by lots of people on this board. One advantage that I have with the XT Live that DL4 users dont is that I get the awesome sounding Line 6 delays but with tap dotted 8th notes. This is the number one reason I still use this pedal. The delay options with the pod are much deeper than just a single Boss delay pedal alone but if you really want to explore all the delay options, the XTL includes the FX Junkie model pack which gives you even more delay options.

Is the pod worth it? Or can you get much better features off of separate pedals? If the pod is as good as separate pedals, would it serve any purpose to keep the Tube Screamer?Whether its; worth it or not to you, I don't know. One very nice feature that I regularly take advantage of is pedal evaluation. There are so many pedal models included that I can just say to myself one day "Hmm ... I wonder what fuzz would sound like here" and so I use the Pod to dial it in. No trip to the store and no money out of pocket. While the model might not be a 100% perfect replication of the original, it's close enough for me to evaluate the usefulness of said effect. I regularly use the TS model on my XTL and before picking up a FullDrive at 18v, thats all I used. I was and still am very pleased with the TS model on the XTL. You might like it and you might not but you can test it along with a number of other ODs they include.

If you are serious about evaluating pod technology, do yourself a favor and check out the XTL. It will be a little bit more but for that money you get foot control, the FX Junkie pack and a line in for practicing along with a CD player or mp3 player. You should also spend some time with the user manual and the other product information on the www.line6.com

I've got a guy who has a Pod Pro for sale plus a digitech Control Seven MIDI controller for sale.

He bought the line 6 about 4 years ago and is asking $200 for the Pod Pro and Digitech Control 7.

What do you think?

The Pod 2.0 and Pod Pro are both based on the first generation Line 6 technology. The Pod XT and XT Live are based on the second generation and offer more effects options and software upgradability by means of Map & Effects model packs.

I've had the original red kidney bean Pod for years. I bought mine at version 1.6, about a month before Pod 2.0 became available, so I had to pay folding green stuff for the 2.0 upgrade kit (which was in the form of an EPROM chip that you have to change for yourself). I used mine a hell of a lot in the forst few years, both for home recording & for home play, where I'd run it into the effects return of a solid-state combo amp. Two things have killed its use for me: Firstly it developed an irritating fault in that cerain settings would change randomly. Secondly it's just not useable live as it is, and the Floorboard controller for it costs as much as the Pod itself did.

I believe a PODxt would be a better choice than the POD. A bit more money than the POD but the extra money is well spent.

Yeah, I had a POD 2.0 like the one in your auction, and I would not recommend it. Go with the POD XT or XT Live, etc.

It's a fine pedal for headphones or general recording/fiddling, but the XT introduced a lot of useful features and better models from what I hear. The 2.0 should be going for about $99 anyway (yours shows $139), not sure about the XT.

I just read that you've only been playing since january, so the POD will be great for practicing and getting used to amps and effects and finding out what you like.

I have a pod 2.0 and an xtl. You will get very different opinions on which unit sounds better...I personally prefer the amp tones in the 2.0. If your planning on using an amplifier though I would go with an xtl (which has better effects btw). I am running some modded pedals through my 2.0 and I'm really digging the tones(direct of course).
