Hi Archtopjazz,
As far as a great acoustic guitar amp, I would say that for me it's
the AER Compact 60. Sounds incredible with acoustic/electric guitars
and also with hollowbody guitars.
I just love it's size and portabilty, with a huge enormous tone.

If your going direct to the board the LR Baggs para acoustic d.i. is a great little unit.

Can't go wrong with the AER 60 as suggested above. Pricey though but well worth it.

I just went through this. After trying the all AER's, Fishman's, Ultra-Sound's, Schertler's and every other acoustic amp I could find I chose the 55W Rivera Sedona with the Neodymium speaker. This amp blows away the competition. Totally in a different league. It's all tube, quite loud and weights in at about 55 lbs (unless you go with the stock JBL speaker. Then you're talking around 70 lbs.) Not only is it good for acoustic, you can play your electric guitars through it too. It's got channel switching. It's the only tube amp on the market that can do it all. It's a normal channel switching amp, American/British until you set it on the clean side (American) and pull the knob out to turn on the high frequency driver. It's so lush you can't even believe it. It's also got a notch filter in it to get rid of feedback. I use it with my Martin "Aura", with the Fishman Aura system in it, Martin "Richie Sambora" Model with a Fishman Matrix pickup (Incredible guitar despite the name. If he really did design this guitar he should be building guitars as well as playing them) and my Baby Collings with a L.R. Baggs Element pickup. Sounds great with all my electric guitars as well. I chose the Neodymium speaker for the lightened weight. The one I tried at the Laguna Guitar Shoppe had a JBL in it and sounded great. I was scared that when I ordered the one with the Neodymium speaker it wouldn't sound as good but I actually like it just as well. It sounds a little different but not any better or worse. The amps are handmade in California and they're the greatest guys to deal with. I bought mine at the Laguna Guitar Shoppe in Laguna Beach California. They're really nice people too.

Second the motion on the AER 60. The fact that you can waltz in to your gig with the thing strapped across your shoulder is an added plus.

I love my Ultra Sound amp. They make a great acoustic amp and are as good as many that are much higher priced.

I've got to agree that the AER is the most "transparent" acoustic amp I've ever heard. A guy I jam with uses one extensively and I'm always impressed by how well it reproduces the natural tone of his instruments.
I compared the AER with the Ashdown Acoustic Radiator 1, and found the Ashdown to be warmer sounding. I believe they are cheaper, as well.

i've heard some good ones, but i would no more buy an acoustic amp than i would buy a "vocal amp". that's what the p.a. is for.

I just used my AER Compact 60 and I am still elated and blown away by it's tremendous tone and size. i have tried the AER Compact in conjunction with an L.R.Baggs Para D.I. also a Avalon U-5 and have use a Black Box to coax some incredible acoustic electric guitar sounds.
