Yes, I know 4" is small for a guitar amp speaker but I have this solid state practice amp project I am putting together for myself and a 4" speaker is what will fit best in my salvaged metal enclosure. So, I need something that can take a few watts (probably under 10) and handle the bass frequencies of a guitar, both clean and distorted. Not too deep a frame/magnet or it may not fit either. Any suggestions? I could use a car speaker or a mini-monitor speaker I suppose, but those "full range" speaker often don't sound that great running a guitar amp through them. Thanks for any help on this.

Seriously, for a 4" speaker you probably need to look at old radio or cheap "hi-fi" (ie lo-fi ;)) "bass" speakers. They'll have about the right sort of midrange-only response for guitar. There are some very cheap modern guitar practice amps that use 4" too, I've come across a few recently. You might be able to find a dead one with the speaker still working if you ask at a music shop... they're so cheap they aren't really worth repairing if something dies in the amp section.
