Hi,

A little help for a guitar duffer if you please.

I can play one a little bit, but my knowlege of exactly how the electronics work is sadly lacking.

Here's the problem: The output on my Strat seems a bit dodgy - it all sounds good if I stay still, but if I move the jack in the output of my Strat even the slightest bit I get tons of crackling.

The cable is fine - I have tested it with another of my guitars. The soldering looks good in the strat (to me atleast). I have tried cleaning the connectors involved - no good.

I am guessing I just need to replace the socket/whatever you call it in the strat, and I was hoping someone could confirm this, or suggest something else.

If you can't figure out what I'm on about, here's a video (with utterly crap sound quality, but you'll get the idea) showing my problem:

Hope someone can help.

Thanks very much.

Bend the little spring steel contact in the center (that contacts the tip of you 1/4 plug on the cord) in towards the center a bit so that it makes tighter contact with the tip of the plug. You might also give it a little scrape with some sandpaper or the tip of a knife while you are in there to take any oxidation off of it. Push your plug in while the jack is out of the guitar to check for good tight contact.

Excellent.

Thanks very much for your reply.

I'll give that a shot.

Well, I went and did what you suggested and it worked an absolute treat.

Thanks very much for the great advice 9fingers.
