playalongs...
Ive already went through a few of these back in the day. The usual Volumes 1,21,24...
Is anyone else using these?
Im thinking about outting more of them to use along with Cokers "How to practice Jazz"
Thoughts on other volumes?
Thoughts on the usefulness of the products?

I like the Wayne Shorter one. I like the Coltrane volumes. I like the Bill Evans one. There's another one I like that's mostly ballads with an organ trio vibe. I got the Tadd Dameron one a while ago but haven't had time to get into it. I'd like to get the Dave Liebman one.
I don't use them religiously, but I think they're very good for practicing with in preparation for jazz gigs with real players.

I know guys that use them on gigs, they cut off the count in and figure out how many chorus's there are before having to come back in to play the head on the way out. Cheese. Great for practicing

Great great and useful courses. Of course playing with live musicians is the ultimate goal but the Aebersold recordings can and will help along the way.

- Only every horn player I know.
- There's a cut of Warne Marsh playing along with 'How High The Moon' off the Bird one on Marsh's 'An Unsung Cat'. It's laughable how great his playing is on it.
- (It's humbling when the comping on most of these is so much better than mine.)
The aebersolds are my virtual buddies !!
Definitely the methadone for cats like me who have chosen not to play out anymore
I wish that he would come up with some other tracks besides the straight ahead stuff
Some of the keyboardists on those tacks tend to get "happy fingers" at times

'Maiden Voyage' is a great start for working on some jazz classics.

Now they also have a guitar comping edition for Maiden Voyage, it has an isolated rythmn guitar track which is transcribed in the book.

That why I've edited all my aebersolds so that I've got drums and bass ONLY in both speakers.

It is kinda how piano players typically play, at that level. They will push and poke you to get you moving...

Yes, use them all the time, especially for livening up scale/arpeggio practice.

If you look in the right places, you can find a torrent that has volumes 1-106, book & CD.......... or so I've heard.
#84, the Dominant Seventh Workout, is my fave at the moment.

I don't have the Aebersold stuff but play with a bass player and piano player who do. For tunes they want to do (standards), they give me the Aebersold sheet music. I mostly have the same tunes in fake books and what I notice is that the Aebersold sheet music has more chords added. I was surprised at this since I thought the Aebersold method would simplify the tunes. I also notice his different way of spelling chords; eg. #11s occur a lot - I generally play a 7b5 over these but the spelling is a bit annoying when reading the changes. Anyone else notice this?

I take a good fiber supplement to keep me moving - I just need ole "tickling the ivories" to settle down a bit or not drink any coffee before the session
The guy on the rhythm changes & the blues play along plays pretty groovin'
Anything with Gene Harris is always a treat as well

Millennium Blues volume 88 is pretty great. There are some nice changes on the more advanced blues numbers. Definitely something to check out.
