I know this is a dumb question but I'm going to ask it anyways. If I want to plug my blues jr into a 2x12 cab without the internal speaker do I use an 8 ohm cab? I just want to unplug the interal speaker for gigs only and plug a 2x12 in it's place, then go back to the internal speaker for home use. Thanks in advance for any advice.

If your internal speaker is 8 ohms, then yes, as long as you disconnect the internal speaker.

I've heard it said the Fender OTs can take 100% mismatch without a problem. I've used them in that way and never had a problem. However, I've installed a Mercury Magnetics OT in my Blues Jr and when I use an 8 ohm extension, I "Y" it with the internal 8ohm speaker and use the 4 ohm tap. All it requires is taking the back off and replacing the 8ohm tap with the 4 ohm tap to the speaker jack and since I usually use it consistantly in one configuration or the other, it's no big deal.

100% mismatch is not the best way of phrasing it. 100% less than whatever is 0 ohms....that wouldn't work too well;)

1:2 to 2:1 mismatches are generally tolerated in older Fender amps. I wouldn't be as confident about a Blues Jr.

Yes, 8 ohms would be the best solution if your original impedance was 8 ohms.

Sorry about that.....it makes much more sense as 2:1 or 1:2. I think I got that from one of Gerald Weber's books or articles in VG. .....
