View Full Version : Any bass flangers or bass phasers available?
I was looking for whats available for bass as far as flanger(prefered) or phaser.
I remember having an old dod? Bass Flanger back in the day that sounded good with bass. I currently have a Pigtronix , and dont like it with bass, plus its huge.
Small footprint, true bypass, and 9vdc would be good to. Any suggestions?

Yes- Boss made the bass specific BF-2B:

They are discontinued and relatively inexpensive.
Currently they make the BF-3:

Note the bass input.
Personally, I like the Japanese made BF-2's. I don't think any better flanger can be used on a bass. The "shimmer" effect seems to have much more intense dynamic on the higher frequencies, while maintaining a great low end.

The BF-2 is the best bass flanger that they've made, IMO - better than the BF-2B (which is a bit bland and doesn't have the character of the BF-2), and better for bass than for guitar too... the best one for guitar is the HF-2 Hi Band Flanger.
Even the Taiwan-made version of the BF-2 is fine, really.
Despite its bass input, I hated the BF-3 - it's digital, and sounds it.

EBS UniChorus
I had a TC Electronics Bass/Keyboard Phaser at one time. I liked it a lot though I couldn't seem to find a use for it much. The TC stuff was very transparent and had a lot of usable tone. Oddly enough, I never felt the need for much in the way of effects for bass. Do you have have a particular part worked out that needs it?

I have an early 80's Ibanez PT-9 phaser and it's awesome. Versatile, 9not too expensive and it doesn't kill your tone when you stomp it.
Thanks for all the suggestions. The TC and Boss sounds like they might be worth trying.
Well as far as its use, I dont have any other modulation going on.
Ive found it to work nice in transitions, fills a huge space, without playing alot of notes. We do alot of jam orientied music, and its currently a trio, so at certain times I like to have some nice background ambience to add to the bass.. I remember that the flanger could be kinda funky too.
Anyone try the MIJ Arion Bass Flanger?

I have a TC SCF which sounds great with bass. It's in a wider box, buffers instead of bypass, and runs on AC. That doesn't meet your criteria very well, however, it's very transparent and sounds killer with a slow flange. Also, it can add 15dB of gain.

The EBS stuff is great but it's hard to find in person. I use a Yamaha Magic Stomp only as a flanger and it sounds good (not the holy grail) and a long time ago I had an EHX Polychorus which was great. Neither is close to small footprint, true bypass (not positive on the EHX) or 9vDC though.
well I picked up a MIJ BF-2, they are fairly inexpensive and plenty of them for sale. Its pretty much what i was looking for although Im still keeping an eye out for some others. I havent seen many of the others mentioned for sale used.
Any other suggestions? Maybe some more phasors to try?
