This is a part of Satriani's "Moroccan Sunset" that I particularly love. The whole section of the song with this is absolutely fantastic.
I was wondering however, what gives this phrase its feel. If you can help it would be much appreciated.
Is it just the rhythm of this phrase that gives it that feel?
The feel is hard to describe haha, but I love it.
Here's a link to the powertab if you need/want it.

It's called Satch.
That's what give it that sound.
Do your best to emulate it.
You must "hear" it.

Sorry man- it's hard to talk about a feel or phrasing from a TAB of something. What you've got there is almost straight 16th notes- not much happening rhythmically.

It's just pentatonic box.
It's not what Satch plays, it's how he plays it. He could make the solo to cinnamon girl sound like a masterpiece.

hmm perhaps...
The song is in e minor I guess...
F# and the relative minor of G...
but yeah that part of the song has a very jazz like flavor or something

I was thinkin, before the phrase I have above, satch is messing around with pentatonics (starting at about 1:17 in the song) and, then he plays a neat minor phrase that sounds almost phrygian, it has that exotic feel, and then he jumps into this phrase which really brings out the feel it does.
Perhaps just the juxtapositioning is what is giving it that sort of feel...I dont konw

Looking at the phrase and listening to the powertab midi playback of it, it doesn't seem that interesting to me.
It's a perfectly nice little lick of course. Nice and simple.
I'd guess what made it stand out to you was that it fit well in the context where it was used.
The fact that Satriani deploys simple phrases like that in a tasteful manner is what makes him more than just a technician or shred-meister.

Well, you don't have any chord changes or backing listed, just a bass note hitting A. When you're talking about something sounding phrygian (or even minor) it all depends on what it's being played against. Play that same lick over Cmaj7 and it will sound different, over Emin7 different still.
