Hey guys, I need advice. I've seen this covered before,BUT I'm asking for myself.

I love me amp I have now, but, I am starting a new band (finally after a year), and the places I need to go is up and down lots of stairs and small places. I have a Peavey Pro 500 head and Pro 410 cab. Lots of power and tone, but the cab is 98lbs!!!! So, I'm thinking of selling the amp and cab and going for a Smaller/lightweight combo, or light cab and head.Or maybe just a Lighter/smaller cab. I've seen great stuff on Markbass, Eden, and EA, but I don't know where to test it out around here.... So I have to go in blind if I do buy one of those amps, plus, is there anything else out there?

I'm a fan of 210 amps. But I am open to other suggestions. I am looking for good punch and bottom, w/ a nice mid/high too... And CLEAR TONE!!!

BTW, I am in the Buffalo, NY area. So if anyone around know of a shop that has any lightweight amps, please give some info!

Thanks for your time.

I've got a Markbass Littlemark II head (6.5 lbs, fits in a laptop bag with my pedals and cables) & the Markbass Traveler 2x10 cab (compact dimensions & 33 lbs, and loads into a compact car easily)

It's plenty of amp for the what I'm doing, and I can run a 2nd Avatar 2x10" cab if I ever need more oomph. Highly recomended.

Hey Cb,
Where did you buy your rig from? I can't find a dealer anywhere near here. Is there any on-line dealers? Thanks.

Check with the guitar centers in your area, currently they are the sole distributor stateside AFAIK. Not all will carry them in stock buy any guitar center can order you one.

Thanks Tarrant, I was aware that GC was carrying them, but I was hoping someone else was too, because the GC in Buffalo doesn't stock them....:(

I have the Eden Metro 2x10 combo and am very happy - seems to fit the description of what you are looking for.

Happy hunting,

Edward

Despite the history of the flip top Ampegs, I don't think bass amps should be combos. A 1U or 2U tube preamp into a QSC PLX power amp is very light weight for a head. The neo cabs from Avatar or the more expensive Epifani's are pretty sweet.

Just saw this...

I got mine from the Cincy GC when they started carrying the Markbass line. I'm pretty sure any GC will have a rig shipped in, and you'd have the 30 day return policy if it didn't float your boat.

What a relief to finally be able to get a great sound out of a ~39 lb rig. My first bass rig, a Peavey Combo 300 w/ a 15" Black Widow and a Peavey 18" BW + 2x10" cab was probably close to 200 lbs and stacked as tall as a refrigerator.
