Kind of a fusion Celtic/Rock/other kind of band. Music sounds pretty interesting and they seem pretty cool. Talked with one of them and we'll see how it goes when we meet.

Haven't played bass in a band for quite a while, but hopefully my chops have come back to me enough to make it work. I sold my old bass a while ago to pay rent, but a couple months ago I got a new one.

Been playing mostly scales and patterns mostly on the low frets, re-familiarizing myself with bass in general and my sixer in particular. It's interesting -- I can be a lot more lazy with this bass because it's fretted rather than fretless, but I also have more ground to cover because it's 6 strings rather than four. It's a lot more comfortable to play than most 4-stringers too (for me).

I will let you all know how it goes, and welcome advice of any kind. :RoCkIn

I actually auditioned for a fill-in gig last week.

I was lucky because it is a cover band, and most everything is stuff I'm familiar with and have at least messed around with, if not played a lot of the songs.

If you're doing an audition cold for an original band that you don't know the material- I'd suggest against trying to show off how badass you are, but impress them with your ability to fit into the context of the band, fit in with the dudes themselves, but still let them know you can do other things. Vocals are a plus.

It went OK. The sound wasn't the greatest -- speaker behind the drums, had to turn the bass up, and I sometimes got lost in the mix or couldn't hear myself (that part was truly annoying...) It's not that bass-heavy of a band, which is fine...just have to get that speaker closer to me when I come back.

Lots of good things though. They all seemed pretty cool, and I think we all can get along well. It's an interesting sound...none of the music I'd heard before and most of it I like quite a bit. I probably can't do the next gig they have because my chops on bass aren't quite as solid with them as they'd need to be (no time and it's all new music to me). But, I bring a lot of other things like to the table like vocals, classical background, musical knowledge, and (some) skill on other instruments...so we'll see.

The band is basically three people who've played together for years...they all seem cool. I got their CD and will look at the music and we'll see what happens when we meet again.

Thanks. Second audition will be the charm maybe...we'll see after I've seen the music and/or improvised with the CD enough. I'm PROBABLY going to end up working with them some, will let you know if I'm the bassist or just some guy who plays a few instruments and helps out on the vocal tracks...or if everything falls apart (hard to judge when you're the new guy and everybody else has been playing together for a while).
