Does anyone use a Bassman amp for bass? Or are only guitarists using them?
How do you like it with your bass? I expect it's not loud enough for a clean sound with a loud band, but for an overdriven sound with a medium volume band I wonder how it would be? I have a 12 watt musicmaster bass amp that sounds great with the volume all the way up and with my hot P90 pickups on my univox high flyer bass. If I had that sound but louder, I'd be set. any advice?

I used to use a SF Bassman 50 with a 2x15 cab for a bass amp with a alt-pop group (Smiths, R.E.M, Byrds, Church). Most of the time it was just for stage volume since the bass was usually DI'd through the PA

It all depends on the volume and instumentation of your band - it wont work in a loud band. That band had a fairly soft jazzy drummer and a guitarist who played a 12 string Ric mostly clean through a JC 120 -- so the slightly gritty old school bass sound worked nicely

with a few very simple mods they can surprise the hell out of you when used strictly for bass. pair it up with the most efficeint cab(s) you can find(ie: bag end, bill fitzmaurice, carlson, mesa)and surprise the hell out of anybody. not to brag(ok, i guess i am)but my heavily modded black bassman with a single bag end S15L-D cab will eat a stock bf showman/single 15 setup for lunch and spit out it's bones. that is, if loud and clean is what you're after, and i certainly am. if you want warm and slightly dirty simply change the phase inverter tail resistor to .47 and leave the rest stock. but do use a very efficient bass cab. just my 2bits.

big thumb's up here on using a bassman for bass!
