Tonefest '07 from The Tone Shop in Bowling Green, KY about 50 miles north of Nashville...
Very cool night. I got there early hoping to get a chance to chat with the Tone Shop guys (Derek and Eric) and Greg himself. If you don't know Greg Martin (Kentucky Headhunters, the Mightly Jerimiahs, the Crackers, Rufus Huff) you should. Greg is a super great guy and I enjoyed chatting with him while he was setting up.
The highlight of the load in was when Derek (D to the locals) cracked open an old beat up case and pulled out Greg's original 58! My first time being around such a beautiful piece. I wish I could describe the smell of thing, SEXY! Anyway, here's some pics I took:

Boys, that is one amazing guitar. Greg told the story of how it once belonged to Skynyrd's Billy King who gave it to Hank Williams Jr. who ultimately gave it to Greg.
Derek brought his '03 Butterscotch '58 (the guitar that made me sell my Strats and get an R8 myself:

Here are some pics of a few other guitars that made the trip with Greg:

Also heard last night were some great amps. Greg brought his '74 50 watt Marshall (which we heard most of the evening). The Tone Shop is a Bogner and Orange dealer so they wheeled over an Ecstacy (WOW) and an AD30 that each sounded awesome. Have to say I LOVED the Bogner and was VERY impressed by the Orange Tiny Terror! Can't forget a Trainwreck clone made by a local guy that showed up later, here's a pic:

Greg told stories, talked about his influences and much about gear. There were a lot of questions from the 50 or so in attendance. Greg's band Rufus Huff jammed quite a few tunes. If you get a chance to see them, they are amazing. If you're a Mule fan you'll be right at home. Great stuff. Rufus Huff (along with Greg's array of historics) is playing Tidball's in Bowling Green, KY on Sept 6 if you're interested.
Here's a pic of Rufus Huff going at it:

It was a sweet night, with some great guys, great guitars and great tone. Greg talked about it being an annual thing, I hope so. Love to see what they kick up for '08.
