lowes handles deft lacquer which is nitro, not sure if they all handle it but the one near me does, also if there is a woodcraft store near you they have behlens and I believe watco has a nitro as well.

I had to go to a 'paint only' store to find some, 'Nitro' brand as a matter of fact.

Yeah, Woodcraft is a good place or any local shop that specializes in wood working - they should carry Behlen and Deft.
Home Depot and Wal-Mart have DEFT.

I would look for Behlen Jet Spray (gloss, satin and sanding sealer). Good Nitro, just finished a tele and about to start a strat.

However, I found that although my local Woodcraft and other shops carried Behlen, they didnt have much if any in stock.

If you cant find it locally, try Grizzly Industrial on-line.

FYI - If you are doing a guitar and want the nitro to age (check or yellow over time)...according to the folks at the ReRanch forum, Deft brand nitro does not yellow or weather check = high plasticizer content.
The Behlen Jet Spray will age - (I called them to confirm)

I've used the Behlen Jet Spray (which I understand is the same lacquer Stew Mac sells), and while it sprays well and will yellow, it seems to take forever to cure or harden enough to buff out. With Deft, if you wait a week, you can buff it out without problem. However, I've used the Jet Spray and waited a month, only to find that the finish still was soft (and reactive -- watch out for guitar straps and stands eating through the finish!). Anyone else have this same problem?

I like the Behlen Qualalacq. It sprays nicely, and dries/cures fast. I do like the Deft on necks, though. It doesn't get as sticky as many nitro products.
